Lovely update Lyns - I was walking from shopt to shop with you there for a few moments :)

Sounds like you made wise choices and some good savings in there! I absolutely love the dress!!! I think you will look gorgeous in it and only wish I had something as gorgeous as that :o

Just make sure you cancel the card soon after you pay it off to avoid temptation. No oasis spend on the 'how much...' thread thank you! :D

New week tomorrow, new start :) Hope you feel uplifted after your shopping and ready to face anything!

Ooooh gorgeous dress... I am sooo jealous (despite the fact that I would look like a hippo in it anyway due to current state of figure). Just make sure you cut the card up into a million pieces and pay it all off! That's my only nag- I think you've done really well with your shopping and I'm proud of you. Wanna do some of my Christmas shopping too???

this is the first time i dared try something like this on, all my life i dreamed of wearing something like this! if my mum says it suits me (need a second opinion) i'll feel like a flaming princess in it!

i'll do your shopping no problem, just tell me what to get! i love shopping more than almost anything, my dream job would be a personal shopper if only it didn't mean buying things for other people! think i need to get me a rich sugar daddy!

the card will defo be getting the chop sooner rather than later. to be honest oasis is not someplace i shop often, i can only think of two other items i have from there, both (iirc) were £5 in sales, and i still wear them (the first was bought four??? years ago) in fact one of them is part of my outfit for my aunts bday (skirt). i'd promise that there would be no oasis spends in your thread moo but then i'd probably find summit reduced to a squid in the sales and either not buy it or lie to you, so i'll just say no unreasonable oasis spends! :D

ok, i give up. the world has gotten the better of me today. yesterday i had it all sorted, i was goibng to remortgage to pay off my debts (please don't shout at me, i can't take it now!) and get the extra needed to put in central heating before i turn blue. this is my sixth winter in this flat without heating and i'm sodding tired of being constantly cold.

today i got the estimates in for some dry/wet rot work that needs done on the building. £4k. how in hell am i supposed to pay that? i have forms to apply for a council grant type thing, haven't read through them yet, but surely if i earn little enough to get tax credits i must be entitled to grants for this????

oh and i'm getting my tv license and sky back, 24 starts again in january and there is no way i'm missing a minute of it, god help my work if it's not a sunday night again cause i will not be doing lates that day for 24 weeks! :rotfl: i know you'll all start going on about freeview (i don't think sky one is on it which defeats the purpose) and downloading it, but i have a stunning 30" lcd tv (pre lbm purchase) and a crappy 15" crt pc monitor, i know which one i want to watch it on. i don't care if i'm making excuses, i've done happily enough without a tv since august now (with occasional longings but nothing more) and i want jack! if i'm still in debt i'll cancel it again when it finishes. he is most definatly worth the £15 a month! i'll also get the sky half price for three months and try to wangle another deal from them after that.

i think i need a foot up the jacksie or summit right now. all this money problems has really gotten on top of me recently, i'm so close to just saying f*ck it! i truly am, it seems such an uphill struggle and i'm so tired of it. to be honest with my attention span i'm shocked i've managed this long, now this rot estimate is the final straw. help! i just wanna cry all the time right now, but if i do i may never stop.

    Aw, Lynsayjane!

Sounds like an absolute nightmare, hun. I have no solutions for you - I don't know a thing about the grant system in Scotland, but I would phone your local council on Monday morning and get some advice from them to see if they can help.

Wish I had something more productive to say.

hi lyndsayjane, I did have one thought, which is that you can get '24' series 5 on Amazon.com (not uk) for about $36 - it's being released in December. The postage from the US would cost about $9. So that would cost about £23-25. You can get multiregion dvd players now for about £18, if you don't have one - it was in the latest MSE email. All up it would a lot less than getting Sky for a few months, or however long '24' will be on (six months? 24 episodes, one a week? ... I'm guessing). I'm not saying you shouldn't get Sky, I'm just saying there's a cheaper (and darn sight quicker) way of getting your hands on Jack!!!

thanks cathy but series five finished in the summer when i cancelled sky, it's series six thats starting in january.

at the end of series five he was kidnapped by the chinese government (long story) and i've been desperate to find out whats happening. mum told me on the phone that there was a trailer going on sky now, i did a google and got it on you-tube and now i don't care about xmas, i want it to be january already!

as far as my monthly outgoings etc go i now transfer £400 of my wages into my bills account which more than covers all my outgoings other than my £60 credit card bills. this leaves me with £210 after food and fun are taken off, so i can comfortably afford the cost now. i know it'll pospone my dfd, but right now it feels so far away i'm not sure i care.
  • Aw Lynz honey, please don't be down. These things like £4K are sent to try us at the worst possible times. Minnie's right- get onto them on Monday and see if you can get a grant. Will keep my fingers crossed for you.

As for the rest I'm not going to have a go at you for your TV- we can't be dull and activity-free all the time and you've done so well. Don't be so hard on yourself- it is an uphill struggle but we're all here to give you a little push when you need it x x x
