Are you planning on inventing a Muslim Detector then?

I see the problem with that, i should have said fits the profile of a Muslim.

Lets not get this confused though - I am not saying i agree with or endorse such profiling.
I was merely pointing out that it would perhaps be more effective.

Did your children have their pubic area examined closely - with the possibility of being partially unclothed as the source of the "suspicious" object is determined.

Anyone that had an object concealed would be searched to determine what it was. Thats the whole point of the scan...

There's also going to be great fun with people with colostomy bags and women at a "certain time of the month".

How? Dont you think the operator will know how a sanitry towell would look on a scan.
I have travelled with someone who has a colostomy bag (actually an Illiostomy) and we were scanned at Las Vegas airports body scanner.
They had a quiet word with the person moving you into the scanner and they made the person looking at the scans aware of it.

The people that view the scans are NOT in the same area as the scanner. they are not allowed to and your face is masked by clever software so whoever is looking at you will never know who you are.

But none of this alters my original point - it's a pretty ineffective way of detecting a bomber. The chances of not being detected as a bomber is high and by having several bombers on several flights the odds are that most if not all will get through

Actually it probably have a higher chance of detecting an Evul Doer - if you have people train who can judge people rather than relying on some hardware

Any facts to back up your claims about it being ineffective?

No they haven't won - they've neither killed us all nor converted us all to Islam, which is what the more extreme of the nutters want.

But what alternative do you have to treating EVERYONE as potential suspects? Some of those caught as failed bombers have not been 'visibly' muslim.

In terms of catching terrorists the more effective way would be to completely throw the Human Rights book out of the window and search every single Muslim.

Because there are no Christian terrorists ?

I appreciate you aren't flooring this as a serious idea, but it wouldn't make for a more efficient screening mechanism.

So, they are bringing this in to stop potential terrorists taking bombs onto planes.

However, every bomber so far has been known to the intelligence agencies; they just haven't bothered either following up or blocking these people from flying.

Talk about using a sledgehammer to crack a nut.

None that have so far tried bombing planes into or over the USA recently. Well, none that i'm aware of anyway.

And no, i wasn't serious - But i do think it may be more effective.

I can't see the harm in it. The only problem is it might cause delays, especially with those people who can't be bothered to turn up in good time and expect the plane to wait for them. Anything that might weed out a dangerous nut is welcome.

Would it have showed the device strapped to the groin of the guy on the dutch flight recently?

Although a few happy to shoot Doctors and health care workers and declare themselves pro life while taking the life of another, mad enough to do something for their cause on board an aircraft...possibly.
