Birthday expenses split?

no - but then again, if in their head they thought everyone would automatically know, that the 'birthday girl' doesnt pay for their meal, then why would they warn you in advance

It is completely the opposite amongst my friends! We would never expect the birthday girl to pay not only because none of us could afford to pay for everyone at once and it seems a bit rough that the birthday girl should have to pay out! We do always ensure that we choose a restaurant that everyone can afford though. I have honestly never known anyone who pays for all their guests.

Same for me and it's usually the case that the birthday person's meal is paid for as well. Quite often you'll have to arm wrestle the birthday boy/girl to stop them from paying for their own share but this is always in somewhere pretty affordable (pizza express type prices)

I presume you'll all have to split the bill thats what wwe always do, if you cant afford it just say she will respect you in the long run, as if you make an excuse and bail out on the night, you'll feel awful all night and you'l upset the birthday girl as she wants to share her day with you, its not about the choice or restaurant and if its not well you know the answer to that, and I'd go out for lunch again where you can feel comfortable and enjoy.

My friends and I always go for a meal for our birthdays and split the bill - no way we could afford to pay for everybodies.

Same! If it's £30 a head at least (+ drinks), i hardly think you can afford the birthday girl to pay for everyones, even if it's for 5 people, once u include drinks your probably talking £200
