how to get rid of fleas

When our moggies had fleas about 18 months ago, I did alot of digging on the internet and came accross the Acclaim carpet spray for £12 ish. I bought 2 tins and did my entire house (4 bedrooms but still have some left) It stays effective for upto 12 months.
Apart from combing the moggies regularly I didn't put any chemicals on them.
From what I read fleas live in carpets and soft furnishings and only jump onto a cat or person to feed and lay their eggs which then fall off into the carpet. So to me it makes sense to treat the carpet!
We have been flea free since then (touch wood):j0 -
Thanks giggs11 , it shows just how much money the local vets are making on selling the flea and worming treatments. Its a shame you can't but the annual injections to do yourself as no doubt they are making a tidy packet on that to (cost us about £50 a cat for a visit that lasts less than 5 minutes).0

Would you want to challenge your pet's immune system with a vaccine without even knowing they were in full health first? At least at the vets you are paying for a professional to examine them, point out any problems and advise you on what's best for them before you expect their system to deal with the vaccine.0 -
Depends where you live - up here boosters are half of that - I work in a vets so I know what it costs here - rip off further down south but they have more overheads than up here I think.
One tip is to take off the flea collar - put it in the hoover bag!Saving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j0 -

Examine them , at our vets thats extra! The nurse or vet (depending) does the booster injections and the only checks they get are a quick look at the eyes, teeth and a shaking over white paper to check for flea dirts!
To be honest as a good pet owner we chek our cats daily/weekly anyway and soon notice anything wrong or changes in their behaviour.0 -

chloejane wrote:dont forget to empty the hoover each time you use it when you have flees, as this ensures they dont get out and back into your carpets, pets etc, also if you have grass especially long grass keep it as short as possible, these things always seem to help me
long term we got rid of all the carpets where possible and put down tiles, i know this can be costly but flees cant live in the tiles, well not that i know of lol.

you can get it from your vet but you might pay a bit more for it there or get it in various places online including ebay! i posted a link further up for surry pet supplies and there are a few pharmacy type places online too if you do a google0 -
Rang local council up-and they quoted me £29 to get my house treated.
They did say I have to be vigilant in making sure my cat was treated regularly, so I'm trying to find Frontline for Cats. Rang a vet and they were more expensive than online. Mind you, when you go online, the prices for treatments are ok, but £7 for delivery?!!Respond to every call that excites your spirit.0
