  • My postie is a total bell end, keeps giving my neighbours my post.

Done it over 10 times, totally useless.

worse of all would be a scenario where a recorded is signed for and then put through the wrong door, QUOTE]

This happened to me two weeks ago, was waiting for an item, waited 7 days contacted seller who sent tracking showing the item had been delivered on x date but there was no electronic sig.

I kept contacting my local sorting office asking where it was delivered and who hd signed, was told they would ring back - never did

however a week later i got home from work to find the parcel with my street circled and try the right street next to it! obv postie delivered it somewhere else (i live down a road and theres also a street with the same name, i assume it went to the street and not road!!)

I must disagree with u guys saying the customer are the ones sending the items. There are customers at both ends of the chain. Yes even the ones we delivery too, they are customers too.
I disagree with the whole signing for it for customers on the whole, the customer I do it for is a friend, I have written permission to do this for her. Even if she can't come to the door, I go in with anything that I can't fit through the letter box, including her prescription medication. She's been on the fone twice this week asking when i'm coming back cos i've been on hols this week, and her son had to get off his behind and do her running for her.

So if found out will your written permission save you from the same fate as the postie in the press?

I also disagree about who the customer is in this instance, the cutomer is the one sending the goods as they chose recorded. If the customer was the one receiving the goods then they would surely just insist that nothing ever be sent recorded again. Unfortunately of course that cannot work where the person buying the service is the one that chooses the delivery method.

If I bothered using recorded, and i dont and a buyer told me it was OK about delivery as their postie always signed for the stuff with their permission then I would phone their local sorting office with the address and insists that the postman be stopped from doing it. However, I probably wouldn't anymore as whilst I dont want my outward post handled wrongly I also would not want any postie to be sacked over it.

this is what ive been saying for ages (BTW if written consent is held at the delivery office then a postie is covered, however i would keep a copy myself for safety)
people say just leave/sign for the item and it will be fine
however who is to say they will back this up if an item goes missing?
as someone who has daily battles with managers due to too long a duty and having to finish on my time i can tell you i see how petty and vindictive RM's managers are

I guess I'm a bit complacent. I don't mind my postie signing if necessary... Although I can only think of one item received recorded which was too bulky to go through the door anyway - we had asked it to be left in the bin cupboard - all fine and dandy and saved us some grief around Christmas. Special is a bit more sacred though - I always have those sent to work (assuming I know they're using special)

We are pretty lucky now really - when we lived in a flat the post was a mess - lost items, posties not being able to get in because they were working later and the tradesman's button stopped working late morning and the management company wouldn't fix it... And the old carding without knocking. (yes, on that occasion they did have access to the building!) Now we have a helpful postie, a concealed place to leave bulky items, and even the couriers have a selection of NICE neighbours to leave parcels with.
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j

Soolin - From a RM point of view both the sender and receiver are customers. Although the contract is with the sender. The receiver is also the customer as we're also providing a service to them. They get to complain about letters being put through the wrong doors etc too. Therefore, classed as customers. And yes, my letter would save me from the fate of the postie in Southport. It may not feel right to you, but the end customers are my #1 priority, they are the ones I deal with every day.

Custardly - Yep I aint green enough to trust Royal Mail management. There is a copy of my customers letter in the office, and a copy in my top drawer :D

As I said before, I don't agree with signing for things for customers, it's bad practice. But with management actively encouraging posties to do this, what are they supposed to do?

I think this is out of order, i also live in a rural area and my postie leaves any large parcels in my grey bin for me, he dosn't sign anything for me though but i wish he was allowed, would save me alot of hassle. Ive had recordeds go missing in the sorting office before, took them 2 weeks for find them! or let me know they've been found. The posties round my way do an excellant job, my next door neighbour is an 92 yr old! he gets alot of mail from his son in australia that needs signing for but he physically can't sign for them so my postie does it, what would the poor guy do if he didn't i dont know. I think they should be able to use there descretion.

he shouldnt be leaving packages in the bin either
discretion gets people sacked, trust me the RM future involves clearing out full time posties as cheaply as possible
