Total over reaction by Royal Mail.
I hope my postie doesn't change his ways, it's such a big help.
Don't forget though that you are not the customer. The customer is the person who sent the item to you as they are the one who purchased the Royal Mail service. It is only a big help to you as the recipient, it does not help the customer in any way whatsoever.0 -
and now people know why i have posted(many times) that posties shouldnt be doing this
RM are more than happy to get rid of staff
theres a phantom shares payout due in a year or two
a pensions deficit
staff on the old contracts
grandfathered payments etc
much easier to sack staff than pay redundency0 -

good or smart?
cut corners, run around their duty, sign for packets, leave pakages on doorsteps
you may think thats a good postie
not a smart one though
worth losing your job to save someone a trip to collect their packet?0 -
I think this is a very widespread problem.
I also pay to have my post delivered to me, not my neighbour down the road who I dont know anything about....(should just be delivered back to the sorting office).0 -
While i agree that this is a widespread problem, i feel the sacking is harsh and perhaps a warning would have sufficed0

its hard to tell whether he did it out of lazyness (not wanting to carry it back to the delivery office or whether he genuinely wanted to spare the customer the inconvenience.
personally I think being sacked will be an excellent detterant to others.0 -

you would have a very poor postie by somes ideas0 -
i live in a rural area and if i am not in the post lady will take the package to my mums who lives up the road, if my mum isnt in either the post lady will sign the package and leave it with one of my mums neighbours for me (I dont want anything leaving with my neighbours, they once signed for a present for my DD then threw it outside when it was raining!)
i'd be fuming if the post lady around here got sacked for doing me a favour0 -

As others have said the customer is the person sending the item. If I send an item to be signed for and pay extra for the service I want the person at the address to sign not the postman.
You also need to remember if you buy something online from ebay and it doesn't arrive you will lose a paypal claim if they have a signature even if the postman signed for it and has left it in the wrong place.
We cant have it both ways people complain when RM is being crap and not giving us the service we pay for, but when they actually react and try to stop their staff from not following procedures people moan again.
If my postie did this I would be contacting RM and complaining.0 -
