Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Sat 30th January. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning.
It feels cold here today and the Arctic wind seems to chill the house down a bit more.
I am trying to be frugal with the heating oil as it's coming down in price every day at the moment and I want to get the best deal.... May have to give up soon as we will run out.
Day off for me. Not sure what to do.... No real need to go shopping, no plans to visit anyone, too cold to do any outside jobs, although will need to clean out the hens later.
Did a test drive in a few cars yesterday. Hyundai i20 was pretty good for a 1.2. although they had no good price deals. OH liked the Fiat 500 best. Lots of money for a small car, although I thought it was ugly.
Bought and fitted a cheap shower yesterday. The shop advertised it in the local newspaper for a fantastic price. When I went to get one they said it was a mistake.... they gave it to me for the advertised price, but they were obviously losing money.....
If you shop in ASDA buy a paper and get the money off coupon. I bought a 25p star and saved £10 off my grocery shop......
Well, cheers and have a nice day

Morning peeps
another bitterly cold day here, i`ve just let one of the houndies out into the garden and quickly closed the door, i think its the northerly wind thats making it worse, everything has frozen solid overnight.
Todays plans are to hop in the shower and then drop hubby off at w*rk, walk the houndlets and then take Dad to do his weekly shop. Afterwards i plan to blitz the living room and give the suite a good clean and polish.
I`m toying with the idea of bringing some small pots of compost inside and starting off some pepper plants as house plants but not sure that i will be doing the right thing or not - still just a couple as a trial can`t hurt
I may manage to do some baking later too and i need to make some hm pizzas to freeze for later in the week.
Offski to have that shower now, have a good day everyone, keep safe & warm.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -

Good morning all, weather is very frosty here in north Kent, poor old joints woke me up at silly o' clock this morning I think I need a good spray of WD40 to get them moving, either that or several hot cuppas that usually does the trick. I am going to have a big bowl of porridge for breakfast this morning (sounds like Goldilocks:)that will warm the cockles up.
I have to pop to the local Savacentre at Hempstead this morning I wouldn't normally bother, but my building society closed its local branch, and I want to pay a couple of cheques in.
Its our holiday money, so once its in I won't be tempted to spend it. I also want to have a look for a nice SC cookbook for my sis-in-law as I bought her a SC for Christmas and its her birthday on Monday. She is having her kitchen renovated on Monday, and its all got to be ripped out and replaced so a SC might help her over the next few weeks when she can't use her normal one.
This afternoon my DD is coming for coffee and cake so I had better make sure there is her favorite cake in store. I hope to get to the shops really early before it gets too busy.Thank goodness January is nearly over I am looking out for some signs of spring. The grass verges near to me are sown with snow drops and crocus' and I keep looking to see if any have popped up yet. Still its supposed to be sunny but cold today, so at least it may be a bit brighter for a change.Hope everyone has a good day
Take care and wrap up if you go out

Freezing cold here this morning too. I am seeing my sister in law later which will be nice. Also going to go to M&S as I didn't get there after all yesterday.
Diva Is okay and sends her love. She is still sorting through things in her mind but is alright. Thought I'd let everyone know.
Lunch today is beans & poached egg on toast and tea is celery & potato soup followed by syrup sponge & custard.
Have a good day all & keep warm0 -

I had to have a change of plan!! Couldn't get car out of car park safely, so have just booked train tickets instead!! Cost me an extra £60but I'd rather pay that than risk me or my car. And the train goes from where I live so can get a taxi to station for £3 and back again. And it's quicker by 90mins and gets me home earlier Sunday.
Phew that was a manic half hour! Train not til 10am so I can chill out now a bit.

Good for them for honouring the deal :T I've always been a bit fuzzy on the law with this one. Do shops HAVE to sell an item at the advertised price, even if it's wrong?
The trader is not obliged to sell you the goods at the lower price. He is entitled to withdraw the goods from sale until the problem is rectified. You cannot insist on buying the goods at the lower price. They break the law if they try and charge you a higher price
What we have to realise is that all shops 'offer' goods for sale. They don't have to sell them nor do any of us have the right to enter the shop and buy something if the trader does not want you in there.NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Brrrrrrr, it's cold this morning, the kids are down with me and I wrapped DS in white blanket so he looks like a little snowman! Speaking of snow, we have had some but only a little bit and it's only on the grass so big relief there.
Fighting the urge to go and crawl back into bed for a bit but I really ought to get some stuff done. Got someone coming to see a backpack for carrying toddlers around this morning and want to give it a wipe over and also want to wash my 2 car seat covers that the kids used as babies as I want to advertise them for sale. I'm trying so hard to declutter (and get a bit of much needed cash too!)
Going to try some granary bread in the breadmaker this morning, make another batch of EasiYo and will be firing up the old slow cooker for chicken and bacon casserole.
Best get going I guess but have a good day all, will try to pop back in later.Flymarkeeteer: £168 and counting0 -

I have one single solitary yellow crocus that has come out xI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Morning all
I haven't looked out the window yet today and with all the cold reports I don't want to! There was a dusting of snow last night so I'm assuming that will still be there in some form.
Need to do meal plan this morning so I can do shopping list. Have 3 MS jobs to do this morning and take DS1 to work for 12 then get the shopping in. Kids have asked if they can make their own pizzas so I'll make some dough this afternoon and they can have them for dinner.
Need to see what I need for Mum's house hopefully get that sorted tomorrow
I feel the need for a thick warming soup for lunch so I'll get on with prepping that when I wake up properly....
Have a good day!
