Diesel vs Petrol

I think its sad that you cant see past a petrol engine to look at the bigger picture.
Plus how many petrolheads really 'live the ideal'? So many say oh oh theres simply nothing can match the sound of a v8 and it turns out they drive something really dull.
There was one guy on pistonheads on a similar debate said he couldnt possibly accept anything less than the sound of a v8 therefore he would never drive a diesel - it turned out he'd a 1.4 206... :rotfl:So after that speech, i can see how passionate you are about petrol engines - what engine are you running? A v8? maybe a tasty italian v6?
I'm sure its something with real soul.
I could never drive a 1.4 206, actually I could never drive any french car0 -

It all depends on whether you think a petrol internal combusion engine is an amazing piece of pure design or just a set of necessary historial compromises to arrive at an acceptable solution.
Personally I really don't care what the power source is.+1
Doesnt bother me. Its about driveability, and meeting my needs.
Sorry that I'm not just an "A to B" person and that I actually care about the essence of a car. I know we're going to be driving something different in a few decades, but I fully intend to enjoy petrol cars as long as I can. Also, the current batch of electric cars are not the answer:
1) They are inconvenient. Though their battery life is getting better, its still not great. So they are ok for city driving, but not for long hauls or weeks away due to point 2.
2) You cannot just pull into a fuel/energy station and be on the road again in 5 minutes fully charged.
3) The biggest problem (other than them being soulless boxes) is that their power still mostly comes from burning fossil fuels. I admit that power stations are more efficient at turning those fossil fuels into energy than current cars, however until they are all using renewable energy it's still not a complete solution in my eyes, just a cover-up.0 -
I'm not a simple A to B either. I'll take routes to places that add as much decent cross country A or B road as possible. I enjoy punting cars round corners.
However, I don't car that much about the motive power source. I had a revvy BMW 318iS that needed to be over 4K when being driven properly. Which it loved, and I loved.
My 1.9 TDi is about 95% as much fun to drive though. Point being, I don't really care if it's 1000 hamsters spinning in wheels as long as it can get the car up to speed in an acceptable time period.Happy chappy0 -
I heard your car was a celica?
The one with the old 140BHP 1.8 engine out of the Avensis and the vectra?
Correct me if i'm wrong?
You're wrong. It's true, I do own a celica, which I also said I was selling soon in the same post. However it's not a gen 7, it's a gen 6 with a 2 litre 171 bhp yamaha built engine in it. As soon as the Chevy is on the road the Celica will be up for sale.0 -

Yeah, and i've resurrected Enzo to build me a one off Ferrari in my garage...0 -
More of a Lamborghini man myself. Anyway, here's my Nova
Can't wait to see your Enzo :cool:0 -
Actually the engine is built by Toyota and tuned by Yamaha - its a toyota engine.
Also, its fitted into the Toyota Caldina in their local market (probably the Avensis over here?)0
