I wouldn't be stupid enough to keep my credit card on display...but I would pick up a local SIM for emergencies, especially if I planned to travel in that country a lot.
I also wouldn't give half the story and insult people who try to help you, and tell you this is for your own protection. Surely you wouldn't want a sky high bill which you'd then (probably) refuse to pay. Or better yet, get a business phone to take on business. Well actually the bill was £37, this being £2 over my limit. A text or call from CPW would have resolved the matter with a simple payment on my credit card. As it happens I was left in the USA with no means of communication and no prior warning, its unreasonable, I have run up phone bills with CPW for several of undreds of pounds in the past and paid on time
Firstly, I thought you said your credit card had been stolen?
Secondly, last time I was in the States they had payphones. Couldn't you have used one of those to call CPW?0 -

Good bye to you all. i Just hope that one day when you find yourself stuck in a foreign country and have your credit card stolen that when you reach for your phone to get help, all you get is an automated message telling you that you have been disconnected. Then you will understand my point
What you should have done, as you would with your bank and any other card issuer, is tell them you are going away to whatever country, and the usage that appears is genuine, and shouldn't be blocked.0 -
Well I/m sorry if I have offended any one. I'm not normally a nasty person just upset at how I have been treated. I have just read another thread by KK21 regarding Carphone Warehouse with many posts so at least I'm not alone in my complaint about that company. Any way, to you all I apologise. Thankyou0

I don't think anybody is in love with CPW on this thread - I can't stand the company myself, but that doesn't mean they are always in the wrong. Just usually.0
