Some of us can't get Freeview so Sky is the only option.Having the sports channels is the one and only reason we have Sky.
If nothing else these posts go to show the grip $ky have on digital satellite in the UK.
The alternative? A 'proper' satellite receiver with diseqc (£70-£80), a larger dish 80cm-1.0m, (£30-60), a motor (£40), universal LNB (£5-£10). A subscription to an overseas' pay channel if you like football (yes, many have English commentary!): Diema, Supersport etc.
Work out the cost of a $ky subscription over, say, a year. Then look at the alternatives. You'll realise what huge savings there are to be had.

When I started with CableTel over here in NI,the plan was to have 80% of the north cabled by 2007.NTL,when they took over, kept this vision.
Around 2002,NTL ran their fibre network all the way up Bangors ring road & out to Donaghadee.
They did the same out to Newtownards & 1/2 the town is ready to be installed since then with street cabs ect in place.
People are screaming out for it to be installed but are being ignored by VM.0 -

There are indeed huge savings to be had if you use a broadband connection for your programme watching.
