NSD today, but I have ordered tea bags and pasta bulk boxes. After doing this for two years you would think I could get it right.

I don't need pasta, it is rice I have run out of!! That means my budget will definitely go over this month. Grr!

Is this something i should know about? Teabags, pasta and rice are things i use lots of - where you you order bulk boxes?

Woop Woop :A Congrats ragz :A enjoy her xx

NSD today, so chuffed with that, takes me a bit closer to my nsd target. I've got 17 days left of my feb, and hope to make the nsd target, and more importantly the gc target. If i do both, it'll be a first for me!

Thanks for all the ideas for peanuts! Will try a salad tom, and may try the satay thing at the weekend when dd and ds with their dad.
Grocery challenge for family of three - me, dd(12) and ds(11), feeding dp 2 or 3 x a week too. Only food, not toiletries. Jan £87.97/£100 Feb £0/£100
Frugal 2018 needed! Saving and NOT spending
  • small spend in lidl today on potatoes (on offer rooster), garlic single bulbs, cadbury choc and curry sauce, didn't need the choc but it grabbed me.

then small spend on whoopsied bread (25p) and monster munch (45p) in garage when getting fuel, so £1.50 wasted today on the crisps and choc .

tried the lidl korma sauce on dd for tea, not a hit, so back to mr m and mr t healthy korma next time.

suceeded in spending less than a fiver so thats good news at keeping my spending paced with my budget.
    nov grocery challenge, £.227.69/300, 9/25 nsd: , 7 Cmo, 10 egm.
Me, 10 yo dd, and the dog. all food and drinks, in and out, plus household shopping.

Just popped in to update my signature: no NSDs so far this month :( - Monday, I had to buy stuff for Rainbows party and got a couple of bits for myself at the same time - just a whoopsie broccoli and some on offer Doritos for the Munchmonster (aka DD). Yesterday we all had a really carp day so I bought both the kids a creme egg (2 for 80p) and today I just bought milk, as that is all we are short of.

Used the broccoli to make risotto verde for supper - DH and DD fighting to see who was going to have most seconds. A nice cheap meal for those who like risotto:

Fry off an onion and a clove of garlic and stir in 75g of risotto rice per person. (Purists would have a fit, but pudding rice will do if you haven't got risotto rice.) Meanwhile, half fill a saucepan with water, bring to the boil and add in a veggie stock cube or spoonful of Marigold. Add broccoli, chopped into small florets (and you can cut up the more tender parts of the stem as well) and cook for 3 minutes. Take the broccoli out with a slotted spoon and stir into the risotto. Keep the stock on a low heat and gradually add into the rice and broccoli, stirring frequently and adding more stock as it's absorbed. When the rice is cooked to your liking and all the stock absorbed, stir in some cheese and serve, with a little more cheese sprinkled on the top.

I had the end of a bit of parmesan in the fridge, so I grated that in first for extra flavour, then just chucked in grated cheddar. Yum.

Congratulations to ragz and welcome to baby Abigail ! Hope you're not too shattered - 8lb15oz - pff, lightweight compared to MyMonsterSon, but bigger babies sleep better. Keep telling yourself that!!!:D

Just logging on to update my signature. I spent another £18.05. I have had my first impulse buying blow out since joining the grocery challenge in December 09. I only went out for bananas, but found large (ish) boxes of Milk Tray and Dairy Milk in the 99p shop (bargain) and muscled through to grab the last four boxes.

Picked up organic chicken breasts, lamb chops and thick cut streaky bacon from the farmers market, plus jars of homemade crab apple jelly and lemon curd. The farmers market only turns out once every three/four weeks and being a total townie, I can really taste the difference between supermarket meat and the fresh organic stuff. The stall holder threw in a homemade apple cake so I guess I made a saving. No more spending until next week.

Popped into Somerfield on the way home today and spent £11.68 :o There were quite a few 75% reduction stuff so I'm okay with it - I managed to save £9.17 just on those :D Mind you, I probably wouldn't have bought the steak pie, or the sausages (£2.79 usually  ) but they'll make a nice treat since they cost 75p & 69p respectively :D:money: I really should remember to put my co-op savers card in with my money though as they now accept them and I didn't know :o

Then after the school run I popped in the Co-op to see what they had reduced and came out with 2 punnets of baby plum tomatoes (reduced to 50p each) and a head(?) of celery (reduced to 30p) So spent £1.30 & saved £1.60 :D:rotfl:

So that makes my running total *hunts for pen & paper* £34.25 so far. Over for the week but in theory I'm done now until next Tuesday and I've "saved" £13.82 on multi-buys & whoopsies :D Fantastic as this is virtual money going towards my thriftygifty goal of £20 savings this month...I think I'm nearly there ;):D
Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.
Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!

Evening all - meant to spend about a tenner but managed to part with £17:eek:
It did include things like Flora and extra bread, cereal and sandwich fillings but still seemed like a lot - that's what you get for going to the local shop rather than the supermarket I suppose?

    I'll update the total now...
  • There never seams to be any Whoopsie when I go to the shops :( although I can't go at night

Spent some money stocking up today as the snow is falling again and last time I was stuck with baby milk!

Off to find the receipt so I can add it to my signature
Crazy unorganised mum in need of help!
