OS Daily Thread Friday 29 January 2010

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Friday 29th January. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning everyone!
The forums are back
Hope that everyone is well? Hugs if you need one.
Plans for today are to go into town and get some of the 3 for £10 meat from M&S, buy more wool
, get some cat food and general mooching round the shops with my friend. We shall have lunch while we're out too I think.
Breakfast was porridge and chopped banana and tea tonight is going to be a take away :T A treat away from the cooking for me then!
Have a good day all
Edited to add: Pipkin Have just noticed that things were both good & bad at the hospital for you yesterday. ((Big hugs)) for you hon xxx

Morning sunny,
Was just about to start us off ! I have missed my morning fix of os, unfortunatly I am just off out the door, so will pop back later, have good days all xx0 -
Good morning Sunnygirl, Redruby and all to follow.
I forgot the forums were shut this morning - must admit have got more done already :rotfl:
Didn't get to make my phone call yesterday as the person I needed to speak to was out all day, hoping they are in this morning so I can get it over and done with. Its all to do with a pain in the a**e person at our clients who is causing problems for one of our drivers. It could go either way today - all sorted or we have to lose a run and the driver which will be pretty devastating but nothing I can do at the moment.
Had a lovely lunch out yesterday, on the way home picked up my laptop which has had a complete windows reload so it is like having a new one - have spent sometime connecting the printer and stuff but still have a lot to do.
Want to get on with housework today, can't hoover though until the elect man has been and installed our new meter - they couldn't do it monday after all.
Have some makerel in the freezer which will be tonights dinner with some lightly fried new pots and peas I think.
Pipkin - hope it went well at the hospital yesterday.
Hester - have fingers and everything crossed for OH
Have a great Friday.x0 -
Morning peeps
i completely forgot about the forums being closed overnight, i woke this morning and logged on about half past five looking forward to a good browse around and found out thenits amazing how much its missed when its not there.
Well its absolutely freezing here and very windy, as soon as it was light enough i got wrapped up and went out to pick up all the rubbish that had blown onto the garden, the bin men are due this morning and i wanted to squeeze everything possible into it, our blue bin men didn`t turn up a couple of days ago and i`ve discovered that the collection dates have been changed on the council website. No one seems to know as all the roads around here were lined with blue bins but the next collection is now next week. Ours hasn`t been emptied since the end of November due to the weather so its packed full of paper and cardboard.
I was planning to jump in the shower after i`d sorted the rubbish out but i think that i shall wait until after the houndies have been walked as i think that i shall need a good hot shower to warm up afterwards.
DH is off today and i usually struggle to get things done when he is here in the daytime but i`m planning to blitz the upstairs and then i have 4 demi johns of wine to filter and bottle so that should take a good while, i also need to pop to Dsis home as they are away and the bathroom ceiling/roof sprung a leak just before they left so they have just put a bucket underneath it temporarily, i need to see if it needs emptying as it rained overnight.
I would also like to wipe down the plaster on the kitchen ceiling here later and see if we can get the first coat of paint on it, i hate painting when its so cold outside as i like the windows open wide but needs must.
Enough of my rambling for now
Pipkin - ((((HUGS)))

Morning all!
Damp and windy outside today, not taken dog for his daily drag yet, he hates this weather more than me!
Off to discuss dd2 with her tutor this afternoon, going to be fun! Hopefully I can convince the man that all he needs is a little backbone and the ability to make her do some work will follow! Meanwhile I've warned dd2 that any more of her shenanigans and I'm not going back for another meeting, her dad can go next time, and boy will he nag her to death if he has to do that!
OS stuff will involve some cooking today I think, but not cake, and oh gave me several boxes of genoa cake left over from the Christmas all inclusives, still got a fairly good date on them, but won't be used by the hotel as cake isn't on the normal breakfast, lunch and dinner menus! Quite fancy trying out a couple of new recipes, so finger's crossed that I have all the ingredients!
Applied for ds's provisional driving licence last night, quite exciting but also a little scary, not only to think about him in charge of a vehicle, but also how quickly the time has gone!
Went for a lovely lunch with a friend yesterday, but oh my do I think her children are going to hate me now! We were discussing pocket money and I explained the chores mine have to do, she was astounded that they all hoover, mop, load and unload the dw and wm, never mind all the other stuff they help out with, her eldest is 18 and doesn't do most of those things, but I think is about to find that she will be from now on?! We were also discussing food, my friend was complaining about her food bills being way too high and the amount of food she throws away - I explained the joys of rubber chicken and stretchy mince, and slow cookers and meal planning, she was really enthusiastic about it all, and texted me last night to tell me she had mince in her SC and couldn't believe how far it was going to stretch, or how much it increased in quantity with veg, oats and lentils!
Anyhoo, best crack on with the disgusting dining room, but first some brekkie and a coffee, have a good day all, hugs where needed xx
Lunches for kids: cheese and salad sarnies, genoa cake, cheese, apple
Dinner: one of the new recipes I'm going to try out, not quite sure what yet, but something Italian probably - which is handy as I took some ciabatta out of the freezer last night!GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -
Morning all.............(((((((((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))) if you need one......
Waiting for DS2 to arrive to take down the wardrobe in our bedroom and a couple of other jobs we need help with.
I am about to go and shift all my vlothes into the built in wardrobe in the sewing room that was.
Its rather a dull day although quite a bit warmer than of late.
Just need to pack whats left in one cupboard in the kitchen, there are bits about that will have to be slotted in last thing on Monday before we set off and we are throwing quite a bit of stuff away, its no good for recycle, so in the bin it goes, the bin men are due today and I guess the bin will be pretty full next week as well. I had better go I can hear OH rummaging in the glory hole, so better go and see what he is up to.
As far as poss will keep you up to date with whats going on.......otherwise will update when we finally land and I have a moment to spare. Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.0 -
Hi, I've finally got back online as our monitor stopped working. I'm off to the supermarket in a moment to top up with everything that Sainsbugs was out of earlier in the week. I'll be really glad when they have finished their building work and are back to normal! I treated myself to some new cake tins from Lakeland yesterday, which was a bit naughty as I'm trying to save money for our house move and the car needs an MOT on Monday.
I've been trying to follow FLylady for the last couple of weeks and it has made a huge difference to the state of the house (Not have 2 small boys making a mess would make an even bigger difference!) DS2 managed to move up a reading level which I was really pleased with, he's one of the youngest in his year and lives in a world of his own most of the time.
I've no idea what tea tonight will be, I cheated last night the boys had pasta with sausage meatballs as they needed to eat early as it was Beavers, DH and I went to the pub for dinner whilst next door babysat.
HUGS to all that need them!0 -
Morning
Not been on since the weekend as DS was having an anxious time....caused mainly by school teaching about "healthy lunchboxes" in a food nazi type of fashion:cool:. I don`t agree with all this " cake is bad dont eat it" type of teaching...what happened to a balanced diet? Now DS has announced I am not to make anymore cakes as they are bad and we shouldnt eat them. He seems a lot happier today though, has been cat watching on youtube again
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plWnm7UpsXk
Today am cleaning through the house so OH and I can have a relaxing day tomorrow while DS is at his dads. I am also clearing the freezer to see if I can make more space as Co op have half price lamb legs in.....just bought one but would like more if I can squash them in lol.
Will check back later, just off to catch up with thread
