Barclays Finance have confirmed to me that anyone who paid their fees using their loan (credit) arrangements are covered by the CCA 1974. Barclays are working to find alternative arrangements for all students but have acknowledged that should they be unable to do so then compensation/refunds will be appropriate.

Suggest that anyone who used Barclays Finance (previously Clydesdale) should write to them (Recorded Delivery) to register a claim under the Consumer Credit Act 1974. You have 120 days to do this from the date of being informed of the insolvency.

WELL IM REFUSING THE ALTERNATE SOLUTION AS ADVENT WERE THE ONLY ONES OFFERING THAT COMPTIA !!!!!!!! SO AS IVE BEEN INFORMED YOU MAY BE ABLE TO GET YOU PENNIES BACK BECAUSE NOONE ELSE OFFERS COMPtia BUT DONT HOLD YOUR BREATH

I really hope you all get your money back, I know what it's like to be studying when the company goes bust as I was studying with Shirley Price aromatherapy when they went bust 3 months before the end of my course. I know this may not be of any consolation but the OU have degrees in computing and you may qualify for financial assistance.

I just did a recent balance transfer using my egg card £4,000, I still have a balance outstanding of £1,450 left with barclays finance .. not sure to clear that debt with my virgin mastercard.
    Then apply for section 75.
oh my what a muddle any suggestion on what I should do? I have until the 21/02/10 to pay the full value of the debt.

I think you may be wrong

I've just been on the directgov website and I'm covered with my credit cards because I'm paying off a loan if I used a debit card then I won't be....I'm off to the citizen advice bureau to get proper advice. I've just been on the phone to ADvent just now then told me to hang on for two weeks as they trying to sort this mess out. They also mentioned that put my account on hold if I it goes past the 21st Feb when the enitre debt needs to be paid.
They also mentiomned they are trying to sort out another training company to complete the course
I'm covered though as I have gone through Barclays finance and not paid the debt off with mastero card instead (phew!)
Need to start compling letters and sort this crap out...
    but i m still not a happy bunny....

Guess what ... I have just been on the consumer direct web site and gave them a call (you may have to call tomorrow..) Really helpfull person and stated that Barclays is liable for the loan..

CC will also cover and be liable also...
But also stated that we should send a polite letter that they have cease to trade ask them when where the training is to take place and to notify me of updates as soon as possible.

Call them back in a few week if nothing has changed. then call consumer direct back. i may do that late next week I need to know what the credit card should be doing...I do need to hunt for t&cs paperwork though....

Barclays stated that everyone is getting some sort of letter in the post as from yesterday...

Just be on top of your game and BIM what people are telling you
  • Does anyone know what the deal is if you paid using a Career Development Loan? Mine is with the Cooperative Bank. I'm also only part way through my course...

    thanks!
