Hi,

The attached link, looks quite interesting along with the related videos. I would imagine a franchise would be expensive, but you may be able to pick up information and equipment cheaply by advertising - locally or through ebay. Sometimes people have the equipment in their garage from a business venture that they have moved on from.

All the best.

what lens do you have?

you will need a tripod, a good zoom depending on how closse you want the picture and enough aparature to have the moon in focus id guess at about 9 to start with , then have a play o and a slow shutter speed hense the tripod

Thanks alyssa_liss, I thought I might need a tripod (don't have one!) but it's such a nice night that I thought I'd give it a go with what I have. I don't want it very close - imagine a black flyer/poster with the moon in the top corner leaving the rest of the flyer for text. That's what I had in mind.

I have EF 50mm f/1.8II and EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM lenses.

I'll see what I come up with and maybe try again next month (or just download an image! Wanted to take it myself though)

Thank you all for your replies.
EMinently that link looks very interesting. I'll try and find out if they will be doing any more courses soon. It's just something I think I would be good at, I don't mind hard work, and it looks like good return.
2cats1kid I thought about franchise until I read trying hard's post......£26 950 :eek:.....that is a lot of money!!! On the other hand it must be profitable if it's that pricey?!
Thanks for the link scrooge2008 will have a look.

• mrs-d - my Dad has just sold his Chem-Dry franchise and it is profitable, but very hard work. He is close to retirement age now, so wanted something a bit easier. I used to work for him too :) Sorry, haven't read your origional post (or the commitment board post) so am really going to have to read back and not just skim read :o

Mrs D - the price of a franchise doesn't always mean its profitable.... My local chimney sweep also cleans windows and carpets!! I guess the best place to start is to work out why you want to go down this route... do you like cleaning? Is it purely profit you are looking for??
Don't forget that we are supposedly out of recession but only just, so things might be a bit hard to start with.... people won't want to pay out for their carpet to be cleaned if they can't pay the bills. On the other hand if you live in an affluent area, there might be quite a call for it.
Sit down and do some research....

- is there any competition locally
- insurances, vehicle, equipment needed. How much will this cost?
- can you run it from home or do you need premises?

I;m sure the others will add more, but that's probably a good starting place.

Money - an chance of having a nosey round your site?? I've just bought Mr Site Pro And I;d love to see a working site, rather than the ones they advertise online!! Oh, and I'll probably need some storage boxes soon so you might as well have my business!

EM - do you live near Mabel and I then, if you've been shopping in Exeter??

Pebbles, you'll regret saying that! LOL! But you are more than welcome none the less!

Well, no sales on ebay today. One bl@@dy annoying person who kept offering stupid money. The item was BIN at £29 and his first offer was £10! The highest was £18.. I think I scared him off now!!

Not a lot else to report other than I have completed two of my tasks..... only 3 more to go!!!
I will do them Money, I promise!!

• mrs d - the best thing to start with is a rug doctor Google it and you will find loads of tips and advice.

www.freeads.co.uk had 2 rug doctors for sale with all attachments for £160 each. Absolute bargain.

Good luck with it, but just check the reasons behind doing it. If you arent sold on the idea, it is unlikely you will still be doing in 6 months time. If you have the passion, it will be easier to navigate through all the research, legalities, and preparation.

Good luck with it though - and keep us updated

the 1.8 will be better for low light but it will be less in focus ,also not zoomed in
you will need a low enough shutter speed to let the light in but not be blurred with handshake try 20 to start with

just have a play , thats all i use to do

Hey, sorry to butt in - used to be a photographer and teach it, so here s my two-penneth!!

Agree you will be best using 1.8 aperture as you need as much light as possible but at night you are still going to need a lomg shutter speed and I would say not many people can hand hold less than 1/60th second shutter speed without showing signs of camera shake (which can be mistaken for out of focus). If you want to try less than make sure that your arms are supported, say for example your elbows rested on a wall or table to try and mimic a tripod.

Because you are using a wide aperture then you can still be sharply focused but you have to be very precise as the depth of field is so much smaller.....that means the depth of area which will be in focus. Basically from where-ever you focus the depth of focus varies with the aperture, the smaller your aperture the more will be in focus (best for landscape etc), the larger your aperture the more you can throw out of focus. Sorry too much info......

If you want to be clever you could try and prop the camera and go for a really long shutter speed and capture the arc of stars moving etc.

Not sure is I have helped or hindered.......my main advice would be if you have a digital camera then play around and have fun..... you can sometimes get fantastic results that way! :rotfl:

Good Luck
