Does anyone know whether, if you go on Jobseeker's Allowance, you have to take a part-time job when you are looking for full-time work? I'm having to find a job so we can survive, but if I get a part-time one we won't be any better off than we already are. Not very happy as I know that when OH is on late shifts it'll be me getting the kids up and to childcare, then coming home from work and getting the kids to bed, on my own; when he's on days it won't be so bad but will still have problems doing school and nursery as we don't drive. Had a chat with him last night and he managed to start up on things I've wasted money on, which are few but seem to get mentioned a lot...funny, that :( Not feeling motivated at all and writing this all down I feel like I'm just looking for sympathy, which I'm not, really, just advice I guess. Sorry if I'm taking more than I am giving at the moment. I'm a bit stuck.

Eek and I thought I was up early! Had to take the OH to work early cos he's at college tonight. Don't think the munchkin was too happy being woke up at 7am.

Anyone see GMTV with that woman who went back to work 7 hours after having a baby?? Crazy women lol.

Been told I can do my nail course so quite happy, just waiting for confirmation of the date :j

Paula - I know that you could work less than 16 hours and still claim IS not sure about JSA. Probably best contacting your local Jobcentre/DWP for advice. Sometimes theres lots of in's and outs. Although if you are using childcare you will need to work 16+ hours to qualify for help via tax credits. Even then its dependant on income. Tax credits has changed a bit since I was there but the calculator on the direct.gov.uk website is really good for working stuff out. Also a lot of info on it about getting back into work.

She was the headmistress at a very 'classy' boarding school. She was feeding and changing the bairn during lessons etc. It was because the school was her home or something.

They should be able to give you the best info, just make sure you state that YOU ARE THINKING OF returning to work, just incase they do anything silly like stop the JSA. Sometimes they make mistakes ...

Off to deal with a grumpy baby ...

My family (and coincidently my husbands) come from the Motherwell/Hamilton area originally..... I now have a couple of aunts and uncles who aren't far from there...if you know any Pooles or Brownings or
McCafferys then I am possibly related!!

  • Morning all,

Paulabear - know exactly what you mean. Don't drive either, everytime we have money troubles, it is my fault for spending too much (including getting all bday pressies for the next year - 17 in total for £40 from the sales). Apparently I have to get a job to ease things, I would love too, but nurseries round here don't do hourly rate, so to put them both in nursery would cost £520 a week (even if I only worked 10-2pm!!), tax credits would only cover £410, so the first £100 I would earn every week would be childcare, I don't have a degree or qualifications and the queue for jobs here is a mile long, not to mention the waiting list for the one nursery here (in a town of over 30,000) is 6 months long, so what do I do? Put their names down and hope for the best, or find a job and then find out I have no childcare, not to mention, OH refuses to do any housework or sorting of kids, claiming he is too tired after work so I would have to do all of that on top of work, and he always expects me to be on hand to help him out with accounts, making longlines and sorting out wages for his business. I am struggling as it is.

Think this is why the challenge is soooo important to me, seem like others are in it for the same reasons too. I just feel like there has to be a way of earning enough money somehow to avoid leaving the kids to be raised by someone else, and more importantly, to prove to OH that I can earn money too, that I am as good as him, if not better as I can juggle children too. Then again, maybe that why he is being soo negative, does he think I am taking away the one thing that excuses him from doing the housework and children, would it be a kick in the face if I could earn as much as him without leaving the house?

Grrrr dribble I know, but can't help thinking it.

Hi Mummyand Paige-certainly sounds like that to me hun-well all you can do is prove him wrong!!!
God all these problems with other halfs this week-is it their time of the month or something?? lmao!!

Ok today I am going to finish my postcards from Vistaprint for the new collection (after fiddling around changing them every day for the last 4 days) and order them and look into getting stickers or something for the boxes..not sure yet...at the moment I use silver boxes for my wedding stuff and they are tied with some printed ribbon with my business name on. I'll be able to use the same boxes just need something on them that says 'Seren Collection'. Cant afford to get them printed.
