Our school has uniform too Susan, but sometimes on certain trips they get to go casual... Although at Aimee's age they still ask that they wear uniform so they can keep track of them while they're still of the age to go wandering off...

Toby is involved with almost everything I do, and he loves watching me make dinner. Talking of which, I've got Beef and Caramelised Onions in the slower cooker. I felt a bit silly, the amount of meat in it, when I thought back to a conversation on here about sizes of portions.
I think it's based on 'lost' tribes like in rainforest communities where very young (by western standards) use big sharp knives and hunt etc.
I LOVE caramelised onions, what have you actually done/put in it? wish I had something yummy for tea but I've not even looked in the freezer yet
think I might nip out for something 0 -
When I was on my own with Aimee I was on benefits, I had a lone parent's advisor at the job centre who would go through jobs with me and do what they call a 'better off calculation' that shows whether you are better off working or staying at home... Even with tax credits, earning my previous rate, I would have been about £7 a week better off, not including childcare... Sometimes it's not worth getting a job and losing your benefits...searching_me wrote: »i know some of the mothers that go ... one was complaining everytime she get pg her bf goes to jail and doesnt get a job when asked why dont you get a job .. her reply was ... but id lose my benefits xA very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... It is in the slow cooker - onions, beef, sugar, dijon mustard, ciger vinegar, beef stock (recipe said beer, but I substitue), salt and pepper - all in whatever quantities I like
I cook by 'feel' not recipe/scales.

i like my lot to help out with jobs and they all help better if we make it a game or im there helping rather than asking them to do something and leaving them to it!What's for you won't go past you0 -
I saw mention of tax credits earlier. I haven't applied for them yet. Should I be applying? I won't get WTC, but should get minimum CTC. I thought it was for childcare though so wouldn't apply until I went back to work. Is that wrong? I really should pay more attention.0

I'm okay thanks, still a bit strange, but not low, so that is good. Feel spaced out a lot, like I've had a few drinks.
one of the benefits of renting, means I have to do a proper clean every 3 months!
Other than feeling funny, are you ok? What is happening with docs?
I find I need to have more contact with people lately.Stay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.0 -
It's funny, I was just thinking about that the other day. (The continuum concept and specifically the sharp knives thing.) I'm not convinced that just seeing you do something enables a young child to be able to do something - if it did then I would expect Alice's imitation breastfeeding to be a lot more realistic (sometimes they feed from her neck or her tummy). The way I see it, things are learnt by varying combinations of observation, trial and error, and instruction and using sharp knives is one of those things where I personally would not want to risk the "error" part until I thought my child had good enough physical capability and the sense to not do silly things (although I guess the observation part helps with the silliness bit).feelinggood wrote: »I think it was the Contiuum Concept that talks about babies/toddlers watching and being involved from a very early age, so they know how to do things - very interesting watching little toddlers cutting fruit with a sharp knife!
Whoops - I think it was me that started Mincegate. But I think it's been fairly well established that I am extreme/unusual in many areas so what you are doing is probably closer to normal than my meat portions.feelinggood wrote: »Toby is involved with almost everything I do, and he loves watching me make dinner.
