Promised the boys I'd take them to the Great North Museum tody but I really can't be bothered Parking is rubbish by the museum, so we're going to park further out and get the Metro in. Charlotte is more excited about going on the train rather than the museum :rotfl:

These are some of oh's reasons too, plus he has concerns about the way the political situation is spilling over into people's everyday lives (story yesterday about a school who installed webcams onto school-issued laptops and then disciplined a student for improper behaviour at home).

yup, ss, it's exactly that sort of thing i also hate the way religion permeates the political culture, even though i'm religious myself. The self-righteous, self-centeredness is amazing.

Morning all..

Rhys slept fine again last night.. he woke up when we went to bed but we ignored him (he wasn't upset at all, just lying there with his eyes open, probably waiting for us to talk to him) and we all went to sleep without drama

He's still asleep now but I'll have to wake him at 9am as we're at the hospital this morning for a kidney scan. This is the first time they've sent an info leaflet with the app letter and it suggests you avoid all milk based drinks for several hours before a scan. Yeah right, like I can not give a 9mth old milk in the morning and still expect him to lie still and happy for a scan! :eek: He's always had milk just before leaving for the hospital - this'll be his 4th (I think!) kidney scan and they've never mentioned anything before so we're doing as we normal do

Other than that, no plans here except maybe some intense housework once OH is home to occupy Rhys (love early finish Fridays! ).

Aless- the move into cot helped us. I'd say he goes easier and sleeps more soundly, as he was waking himself up when his arms hit the side of his basket. He's still in our room, but we don't seem to disturb him.

Quick Q- Henry still feeds pretty much every two hours through the day, although he generally sleeps ten hours at night. Is this excessive for a three month old BF baby?I just assumed he fed a lot in the day to make up for not feeding at night, but a mummy friend thought it was a lot.

I know a 9mth old who is still feeding every two hours in the day... and night :eek: That would have sent me barmey I think, though her mum looks surprisingly good on so little sleep and with another two LOs to run around after!

Is it ultrasound? It sounds like you've been sent the preparation details for a full abdominal scan rather than just his kidneys. For kidneys normally the only preparation is a full-ish bladder, but with a baby obviously you can't guarantee that without a cork and a lot of willpower so there'd be no preparation.

As long as he's happy, healthy, gaining weight and producing wet and dry nappies he's fine. Babies make their own rhythms.

I didn't want to add the religion bit knowing that there are some religious mummies on the thread and didn't want to offend, aless, but since you brought it up already the self-righteousness that goes along with the minority of religious people and yet pervades American culture is also a factor.

We've always had Alice's birthdays with just me, OH and Alice by choice. If she decides when she's older she'd rather have friends, have a party or whatever than fine but at the moment we just pick something we know she'll enjoy and do it as a family. First year we went to a farm, last year was Beamish and this year we're planning to go to Seven Stories in Newcastle. As long as he knows he is loved by the people who are there (i.e. you, Phillip, Zoe), it doesn't matter whether there are extra people or not.

The medical thing is very scary. Since Medicare/Medicaid came in, apparently the cost of medical care has gone up loads. I've heard of people who have been widowed and left with nothing because all of the life insurance has had to go on the dead husband's medical fees. I also know someone who's Uncle was pretty much left to die by the hospital because he was unemployed. In the US they spend three times what Mexico spends per head but only have a life expectancy of three years more.

And based on the stories I've heard about public schools, it's no wonder homeschooling is so big there.

But I'm totally jealous of house prices over there - a friend was considering a huge five bedroom farmhouse with loads of land in Nebraska which cost the same as our little two bedroom ex-council semi.

Is the extremism as bad in the north as it is in the south?
