I only started expressing on Day 3 (because they didn't think there would be any point) and it's only of my biggest annoyances that they didn't tell me / I didn't know to start earlier - even though DD doesn't feel like she'd getting a lot, the earlier she starts the better it'll be in the long run. My other biggest regret is not doing it regularly and often enough to build a good supply so even though it'll be like the last thing she feels like doing (I assume she can't do it, inci-side), it is a good idea to keep it up

I know a syringe doesn't feel like a lot (I remember me and the midwives being thrilled I got 10ml in a pot in no-idea-how-long-but-felt-like-ages - never mastered catching it in a syringe!), but Rhys started on 0.5ml feeds every hour, so that 10ml(?) syringe is a whole day of meals (Rhys had a feed every hour for five then miss one hour for rest, iyswim).

Thanks ladies, no pump, that's at home so I will send it up Wednesday. I asked the nurse today why she wasn't getting help and she said DD didn't have baby there and as she's from another hospital they don't get involved with her. How's that for BF support!!!!!!

Elle, I also asked about the meals, they said no!

What the !!!!? Ohhhh I would be straight onto PALS and asking about their breast feeding policy with an inpatient infant and an expressing mother. That is ridiculus!

i cant comment on the expressing but know a blanket and picture of the baby seem to help express more! there are a lot more people on here that will be able to give you better information xx

Tara, thats awful !! She was their patient originally was she not?? Just couldnt get transferred in time ! I would be tempted to complain to the matron, or head nurse and tell them she needs help.

If you want, remind us where she is, and we can see if we can do some searching for local numbers of support peeps who'll go in and see her (or meet at hospital cafe if not allowed on ward?), non-hospital connected.

Like Tia and caz suggested, the blanket thing is a good one. Try muslins. My friend on the unit had a pack of three - one for the inci, one for drapping over her shoulder when expressing and one in the wash, circulating accordingly

Wait sorry, is DD at the same hospital as baby or is she at home? I've not been keeping up, but someone needs to help that girl or she is going to have a meltdown (which will be due soon).

I agree with Tia - that is outrageous. The fact that they transferred from another hospital shouldn't make a difference.

Bubs was born in Exeter, then transferred to St.Micheals in Bristol, no onsite restaurant, that's down the hill at the childrens hospital.

And she is currently in a room down the corridor from the unit, being moved to parent accomodation across the road tomorrow. Up to now she's only had access to a microwave in the parents kitchen so hasn't had a proper meal since Tuesday!
