I nearly fainted this morning when I went to the TD and BIL ahd actually taken his dry washing out and put it in his room - his fave trick is to take things out as and when he needs them so I end up emptying it when I need to use it

I have just done the bottles, washed up the pots, loaded & put the DW on, sorted the recycling out and wiped all the tops down

Oh you poor thing. Do they just point blank refuse to do anything?

Picked up Baby Whisperer today and it fell open on a page about waking in the night for a dummy - to stop it you have to not give them the dummy and just pat them to settle them instead. Kind of done a version of this tonight but under no illusions he'll sleep through!

We had to do this. I'll see if I can find a post about it (I'm sure I must have written about it :D). We went cold turkey one night as Caitlin was waking up loads (at least 10 times) for her dummy. Someone suggested that we get rid of it if we thought that was the problem, so we did and she has slept really well ever since (apart from when she's been poorly). I found it harder to not give her the dummy in the day than at night but we did it and haven't looked back since. She's will have been dummy-less for two months on Sunday.

  • Tara bless your GDG - sending lots of healthy strong vibes her way and hugs to you DD and her OH.
SJ - if you are worried about the 6 month 'rule' that 'they' say is best and safe then it may be worth your while doing a little research into it.

FWIR (and don't quote me on this) the research is based on a theory and oberservations of asian families who tend to sleep baby in with them for much longer. Apparently there are many fewer cot-deaths in asian families and one of the reasons was decided to be the sleeping in with parents 'reminding them to breathe'

As far as I am aware there hasn't been a proper scientific study and no account was taken of the genetic / socio-economic or other relevant factors.

I am not seeking to influence, but just be aware that the government guidance is often based on a knee-jerk reaction to a particular theory...which is not always wrong, but not always right either.

I looked at the evidence and made my own decision xxx

I have heard of this "remembering to breathe" theory but to be honest it didn't sit right with me - what about all the daytime naps or times when baby is put to bed but parents are still up?!

Thanks to everyone for their advice. It is very useful hearing what has worked, and what hasn't, for other people :A

I am going to bed now but sleepy baby vibes for all your LOs and "come out now please" vibes to mine :rotfl:

Tara , lots of vibes coming from me xx Does DD/DGD have a bottle of hand gel next to her at all times? remind DD that it's ok to ask the doc's etc if they've washed their hands and maybe get her some surface wipes to have to hand? xxx

SJ - I'm too lazy to put bubba in their own room I personally haven't worried about SIDS though (maybe thats naive of me though *shrug*)

back cos he's playing ONE GAME of FIFA!

BIL just sits on his ariss all night. Don't mind so much with OH - he's my OH! BIL pays £40 a week now and gets his tea cooked for him every night. I could drop hints til the cows come home and get nowhere - in fact I could say 'Oi, buy me a takeaway' and it would fall on deaf ears!

I went up about 11pm and didn't give him his dummy but just shushed him & rubbed his back. The silly thing was up until 4 weeks ago he never had a dummy! Now he wants it for naps and night time sleeps! It started cos he was teething but I know that its why he wakes up in the night as soon as he has the dummy he goes straight back to sleep!
