Did anyone put LO in their own room (and in cot as opposed to a moses basket/crib) right from the start?
I did.
I never had a moses basket/crib as I didn't see the point of paying for one for a few weeks/months use, and then perhaps having problems moving them from the basket/crib to cot.
My eldest was in our room for two nights and I found I just wasn't sleeping. He snuffled and fidgeted all the time in his sleep, and I found I was just dozing all night thinking "oh he's going to wake any minute" all the time! After two nights I was so wrecked, I put him in his own room. Worked really well and I got some decent sleep between feeds and felt much better.
My next two just went straight in the cot from birth and both were fine.
I know what guidelines suggest, but you have to balance that risk with your own health. In my case I felt the risk of putting them in their own room was much much less than me having an accident or doing something stupid due to lack of sleep.
Everyone is different but it's good to listen to advice from all sides, then go with what you feel happiest with. Here I go again on my own....0 -

Poor you, you do so much. I think you need some kind of rota in your house so you, OH and BIL all do things.
:rotfl::rotfl:Sorry but if I don't laugh I might cry!
I nearly fainted this morning when I went to the TD and BIL ahd actually taken his dry washing out and put it in his room - his fave trick is to take things out as and when he needs them so I end up emptying it when I need to use it
I have just done the bottles, washed up the pots, loaded & put the DW on, sorted the recycling out and wiped all the tops downHello, can't catch up, sorry everybody, too tired. How is Mr MFD today?
I was just going to text MM to see if she had heard from you!
What a stupid nurse lying to you! You'd think they'd tell people so they are more awrae of handwashing etc.Personal choice Sarah, I didn't but my friend did. Both mine and her LO sleep through now so didn't make a difference, apart from she had to walk further to settle him.
This is what I'm dreading from tomorrow! At least now its literally one step from bed to cot - I'll have to walk to the NEXT ROOM to settle him!
Sarah - I don't think I could have at first! I was far too paranoid about anything happening to him. Its amazing how much you worry when they are here!
JAM - I quoted you but it seems to have disappeared!
Tonight, J went down at 8.45pm (Way too late but OH insisted on him staying down with us!) and has cried in his sleep every 30mins since!
Usually bed at 7,30pm-8pm - he won't go straight down takes a few dummy insertions & back rubs. I calm him down then leave the room - after about 3 goes he falls asleep.
Picked up Baby Whisperer today and it fell open on a page about waking in the night for a dummy - to stop it you have to not give them the dummy and just pat them to settle them instead. Kind of done a version of this tonight but under no illusions he'll sleep through!A very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea

SJ - if you are worried about the 6 month 'rule' that 'they' say is best and safe then it may be worth your while doing a little research into it.
FWIR (and don't quote me on this) the research is based on a theory and oberservations of asian families who tend to sleep baby in with them for much longer. Apparently there are many fewer cot-deaths in asian families and one of the reasons was decided to be the sleeping in with parents 'reminding them to breathe'
As far as I am aware there hasn't been a proper scientific study and no account was taken of the genetic / socio-economic or other relevant factors.
I am not seeking to influence, but just be aware that the government guidance can be based on a knee-jerk reaction to a particular theory...which is not always wrong, but not always right either.
I looked at the evidence and made my own decision xxxplease listen to MFD - she is a wise womanProud Mummy to the gorgeous Benjamin John born 14 March 2009, 8lbs 14ozA new little seedling on the way, due 30 September 20120 -
got-it-spend-it wrote: »Maz- sorry to be thick but where are you and William both sleeping at the moment? Do you use a sleeping bag?
We are sleeping in single bed in spare room, not sure a sleeping bag would, kmow it didnt with Henry as he got too hot in it.Maz i'm no help I'm afraid. Since 11 weeks, C has been in our bed every night from 2am ish. Before 11 weeks she only woke twice a night and I thought we had struck lucky. OH has now been relegated to the spare room. Thats why I need to put her in her own room. It's just so hard :-(
ETA we tried: sleeping bag/no bag
Blankets rolled up either side so she felt more secure
Swaddling slightly
Heating/no heating
Hot water bottle in crib before we put her down
Muslin over her face
Not tried sleeping on front but its not a position she likes when awake
Erm...
By 2am I am just so tired, it's easier to bring her in with me.
xxx
Know the feeling JAM!!chopsticks wrote: »Maz, is William in a moses basket or a full-sized cot?
We tried him in crib to start and just wouldnt settle whether you put him in awake/asleep/ half asleep. Then tried him in fs cot and even the carrycot in the fs cot. thought it was cos I was BF but havent done that for couple of weeks, he just likes nestling up against meMum to 2 lovely boys who keep me busy.0 -
It was my HV that suggested carrycot in crib and she said it was ok as out room was next to hisMum to 2 lovely boys who keep me busy.0
