Just popped on to see if everyone enjoyed themselves today. Ive been cooking all day again. Rose should now have enough meals for approx the next 6 weeks!
Rose is still loaded with cold. I hope she sleeps better tonight as we had a bad night last night. We wont be able to go to Gymbabes tomorrow.
I ordered some new lightbulbs last week and have had a chuckle when they arrived today. They are full spectrum white lightbulbs. I suffer terrible in the winter without any sun and they are supposed to help. They are huge. They are approx the circumference of a 2 litre bottle and about 2/3 of the height!! The light they give out tho are so different the normal bulbs. I really hope they help!
Off to catch up....DS Anthony Steven 07.06.92DD Becky Emma 24.01.94DD Rose Grace Jean 12.05.090 -
Interesting article on the BBC website: Safety of "souvenir" ultrasound baby scans in question
I wonder what the findings will be. Andrew had many more scans than the usual two, because they were monitoring his growth and my bloodflow fortnightly, and then every other day for the week before birth. Not only that, but he then had lengthy ultrasound scans on his head after the birth (every week) so they could monitor a cranial bleed.

jillie1974 wrote: »just caught up....who says we do all the talking??? 5 pages since i posted this morningsusan I'm really glad the B6 hypothesis seems to be making sense and it's giving you hope for baby 2
Some of the research I did on small gaps between babies says the maternal depletion of nutrients is also linked to how long the woman breastfed for (logically this makes sense, your body will divert nutrients into breastmilk even at the expense of your own cell recovery.
So I'm wondering if a bit of a stint after Alice stops feeding (if that's what she's gently doing now...) of super vitamin and mineraling your diet in preparation might be a good idea, especially if you were beset by a deficiency of B6 last time....
My hypothesis seems to be making even more sense:
Vitamin B6 deficiency has been linked with HG and is also linked with hyperthyroidism and liver function both of which have possible links with HG. (Vitamin B6 deficiency, transient hyperthyroidism and various liver function problems are also known to be assosciated with pregnancy.)
Vitamin B6 deficiency and hyperthyroidism are linked with glucose regulation problems (another known pregnancy related problem) which is also a symptom I had.
Vitamin B 6 deficiency and liver function problems are both associated with anaemia which again is a common problem in pregnancy and a symptom I had.
Also because it is something you don't store and need to consume on a regular basis, once you are being sick and not taking in enough nutrients, the problem would be exacerbated.
Now I need to go away and find out what foods are highest in the B vitamins. (And find some liquid B vitamin supplements.)Any question, comment or opinion is not intended to be criticism of anyone else.2 Samuel 12:23 Romans 8:28 Psalm 30:5

My understanding of the article would be that they are concerend with the 'unnecessary scans' the ones where you pay £80+ to have a 3D/4D photos, dvd etc...
ones where there is a clearly a medical need for them would prob outway any negative impacts. we had extra scans to make sure that K was growing correctly and i never for one moment thought that it would pose any extra risk to him.
imo...scans are to there to ensure any probs- like you had with Andrew- can be found and the appropiate action taken. NOT to have loads of photos/dvd of a baby that i can show all my friends/family etc. of what baby will look like.
just another thing to have us poor mummies and mummies-to-be worry about. (and dads as well)'Children are not things to be moulded, but are people to be unfolded'0 -

I noticed they mention left handedness but I believe that is common in preemies anyway?Any question, comment or opinion is not intended to be criticism of anyone else.2 Samuel 12:23 Romans 8:28 Psalm 30:5

I gathered that Jillie, but then wondered what the difference is between extra prolonged scans for the sake of a dvd, and extra prolonged scans to monitor growth etc? Surely the potential for damage - if any, I hasten to add - is the same?
I take your point about the benefits outweighing the potential harm. I just thought I'd mention it as an interesting article, something that perhaps parents hadn't thought about in their eagerness to see more images of their growing baby.
Haven't yet sussed out, Susan, whether Andrew is left-handed but Marley sure is! Andrew seems to prefer to suck on his right hand to his left, if that's any indication. I sucked my left thumb, and I'm right-handed.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

No idea, but I'm planning to surprise OH with something he wanted for his birthday (and a Valentines and anniversary gift) which may well entail a stay in Chester, so Manchester could be an extra stop on our wayTigsteroonie wrote: »Interesting article on the BBC website: Safety of "souvenir" ultrasound baby scans in questionTigsteroonie wrote: »I gathered that Jillie, but then wondered what the difference is between extra prolonged scans for the sake of a dvd, and extra prolonged scans to monitor growth etc? The study didn't find any evidence of harm to babies, or any evidence that the increase in left-handedness in boys is ultrasound-related. At best they can claim that it's a correlated happening but that's a long way from causation.
The problem seems to be that the unnecessary scans spend longer than routine scans on the baby's head area to try and get a good face shot. I don't imagine your scanners were overly concerned with making sure you got a good set of pictures while checking the health of your baby IYSWIM so I wouldn't worry about it - also German OB/GYNs routinely do ultrasound every month up to every two weeks in late pregnancy and no ill effects have been recorded.Organised Birthdays and Christmas: Spend So Far: £193.75; Saved from RRP £963.76

i dont know about your scans tigs, but the ones i had were about 5-10 mins at most. the ones where you have dvd/photos done takes about 45mins. the prolonged bit is the focus on the face to have a 'nice picture'...
definitely an interesting article.'Children are not things to be moulded, but are people to be unfolded'0 -
Can I just jump in and share one of the pics we picked up this afternoon?
Hope it's not too big! C very tired and whiney after today so must go and sort her out.
