I changed J when he started fussing with his bottles - first time around 8-9 weeks & 3rd time around 18 weeks. They are supposed to be changed after 8 weeks anyway or if baby starts falling asleep during feeds as they can be struggling to get the milk out.
Thanks Glam, need to get some more as have lost a bottle and now only got 2 teats that we are using so wanted to get some more... William is 8 weeks next week and does fuss a bit with bottles so thats made my decision easier.... funny how quick you forget things after 2yrs!!!Susan, did you make an announcement that I missed?
I was just wondering this ???;)Mum to 2 lovely boys who keep me busy.0 -
I do sweet potato mash with ginger - it's delicious.
how much ginger would u use for a whole sweet potato?
I would love a homebirth & would have had one with J but OH was not keen & with the GD I couldnt
Maybe next time
I havea very upset baby - don't know whats up he's just screamingseems OK now he's had some teething gel but who knows how long for!
WM - I'll start a few weeks before I go back - no point now he just wouldn't do it! I'll probably get OH to do the bottles, I'll use my slow cooker so cooking tea will just involve making rice/pasta/mash/roasties.
I'll try & blitz one room a night then Saturday morning hoover while OH is in bed :cool:A very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea
Where does the time go? :think:0 -

Caz, what did he use to create the masterpieces? You might need a latex-based paint that won't let other ink seep through?

Weezl, Sami and anyone else who has had (or who planned) an NHS homebirth - I (or rather OH) have a few questions:
Am I right in thinking you would have two midwives there and when would the second one arrive (based on the assumption that you don't have two all the time)?
second on MW has to arrive by 9cm or if pethidine is required (diamorphine in some trusts). This is so that if you and baby are both in trouble, there's one MW for each of you.
What do the midwives do during labour? (In hospital the midwives occasionally popped in briefly when I sent OH for them so I need someone who's experienced it to explain for OH.)
1st phase:Helped me find good positioning, gave gas and air, measured temps of water, timed and noted contractions every 20 mins. Listened to Fergus' HR and checked dilation once every 3-4 hrs. Called out for more Gas and airGave energy drink in between contractions. Chatted to us both about her children etc...
2nd phase: as above plus moved me v swiftly together into lithotomy position for last 3 pushes. Advised DH on how not to damage my spine whilst applying that much pressure.
Head end MW, lots of encouraging shouts about pushing, how well I was doing, offers to see the head, Giving G and A.
Business end MW,- copious note taking, fetal HR check, contemplated rupturing membranes, controlled crowning (gentle pressure onto my perineum and fergus' head) lots of clean up, towels being swapped. Wiped poo off my foot.
3rd phase: Head end MW gave F to DH for skin to skin, talked to us about BF etc.
Business end MW gave me syntocin in right thigh, delivered placenta, bagged up all clinical waste and removed. Gave F to my mum for a cuddle, found him an outfit, nappy and sleeping bag.
Do you know beforehand which midwives you are getting?
Not in our trust (or any I would think, since she'd not be able to have any time off in between weeks 37 and 42 in order to guarantee to be there!) But there are not always that many community MWs who are trained in homebirths so it's likely to be from a smallish pool of possibles.
Are they amenable to non-standard things such as no amniotomy, delayed or no cord clamping etc.?
Usually yes, because the ones who do HBs are well read typically and more highly trained. They also have time with you earlier to discuss your requests.(well they did with me, but it was a first labour!)Also were very happy about the pool and when I wanted to move and very happy to make creative suggestions based on what equipment we had handy. (ie Gym ball, tens...)
How much notice do they take of the birth plan? (OH is worried that even with a home birth if I put lots of unusual things in my birth plan they will just take no notice like last time.)
I hadn't written one, but the MW wrote down as we talked and she offered me options on various things, ie: did I want the controlled crowning, mirror at head crowning, syntocin etc etc....All my wants were followed.
HTH, I suspect mine had more time than caz's so maybe hers is a more useful comparator for a subsequent delivery
