  • I'd love to try a Norwegian Fjord Cruise - but DH doesn't like fancy it.

My other dream trip is the Rocky Mountains Train

MDW - I really fancy the Fjords too - I would love to see the northern lights (I know you can see them from Scotland sometimes but I wanna go see them properly IYSWIM!)

Rocky Mountains is on my list too.

When hubby and I first got together we both wrote down the top 10 places that we would love to visit and exchanged them by email. Some were the same, others were very different, but hopefully we will get to do them all eventually! We have already crossed off Vegas, Grand Canyon, New York and Hawaii in the 4 years we have been together :D

It is a good job that P&O Cruises won't let you book an infant online or I might have made my fingers slip and book us onto a Canaries Cruise from Southampton over Easter :rotfl:

Thanks for reminding me Em (hello everyone! have been here on and off all day but had grumpy a$$ son and nothing to add!!)

How do peoples work deal with someone being off because their kids are ill? At the moment we are supposed to take it as holiday (which I think is a cheek TBH!) but hopefully soon we will be setting up on our own and I would be interested in the different ways of dealing with absence because of child illness.

I am not bothered about appointments and christmas plays and the like, my assistant can have those whenever she wants them (but would be interesting to see how others deal with them) but sickness is a bit different and I do feel that it should be included on your emplyment record in some way...

I won't get paid if I don't go in, no holiday, sickness or anything other than going to work pay for me but I want to be fair on any staff I will be employing.

Congrats to SM SIL and welcome to baby Aiden.
Oh and YAY for walking Erin :)

My (old) work - If I was sick it was marked as unauthorised absence, sick and could then be used for disaplinary if it went over a certain percent. If a child was sick it went down as sometheing else, basically it can't be taken into account for disaplinary measures, but they could request 'evidence' to support the claim, a note from your GP. (same with college).

DH's old work - full sick pay upto 6 months.

If you don't mind me being nosey, what line of business will you be in? I've noticed it differs hugely through the range of work places.

I'd probably limit the amount of paid sick days to prevent skiving.

Sorry I haven't red back. I am so very angry right now

Josh spent his Christmas money on an ipod touch. It arrived yesterday and Craig spent a lot of time helping him set it up and download apps and stuff yesterday afternoon.

He went out this afternoon and he's lost it. I've been back out with him and so has Craig but we couldn't find it.

He's so irresponsible and careless. I just had to go off and sit on my own this evening as I was so angry and upset that I could have punched him!

He hasn't been punished yet as he's been in his room all evening, but it's going to be hard and severe.

Feel properly let down and kicked all over. Worked damned hard and it took me ages to save up the cash to give him at Christmas. I'm still alternating between getting angry and crying and I'm properly hurt

I've not got cover for stuff out of the home on the house insurance. I'll ring lost property at the Police tomorrow, but I doubt someone would have handed it in.
Here I go again on my own....

becs id be angry too ((hugs)) to you x
    :)Still searching .....:)
  • Oh Becles - HUGS hun. What a nightmare. I bet Josh feels awful and it is a MASSIVE lesson that we ALL learn at some point in our lives. Try not to be too hard on him, although I agree punishment is in order, he must be devastated, both to have lost it and to have upset you. xxx

MFD - DH would love to go to Hawaii, might just have to try and save some money in the next few years to see if we can make it for his 50th Birthday!

Where I work you only get statutory sick pay after 3 days unless you request to take it as leave.

Where DH works its 6 months full pay then 6 months half pay

Beccles - I'd be fuming too. Hugs

I can understand how upset you are but he must be feeling so bad about it too. Hope you calm down soon. *nice honest person vibes* in the hope it has been handed in.

Well done csh - I am very proud of you! :T
I love my steam generator - that's why I iron so much. :o I didn't iron this much when I had a crappy normal iron.

  • aww becs, I bet he feels just as bad as you do xx

Do you have personal belongings cover? It isnt the same as cover outside the home, it covers items normally worn or carried, so if you have that you might be .. worth a check to see

It doesn't have to be unpaid, you can include paid ED conditions in the employment contract, but where I work it's unpaid, iyswim :)

Our reference requests now include a question "how many PL days have they had" but no mention of how many ED days. We have different codes on our absence recording system though for the diff things so could answer the question if asked.

You have to know "how many PL days" because you only get 13 weeks to take in so long*, and they cross employment, so if you've had 10 in one job in the period*, you can't switch jobs and take another 7, you've only got another 3 to take. Does that make sense? (* = "i don't know!" times :o)

Where the h3ll is that confused smiley when you need him???

    Wha?????
MFD, we are allowed 5 days a year I think of emergency parental leave, max of 2 days in a row where we still get paid. If however it isnt an emergency eg. a school play or dentist appt etc.. and we have no holidays left then it is unpaid parental leave, and after the 5 days are used it is all unpaid after that if it cant be booked as holidays

That doesnt make as much sense as I want it to ...

Oh that sounds perfect!! Although I really am not bothered about an early afternoon or 2 for a school play or appointment. If I say 5 days per year, max 2 in a row, of full pay and then holiday or unpaid then that feels about right IYSWIM. I want to treat my employee how I would like to be treated myself and that sounds fair.

It is wierd because the lady in question has been my assistant for 4 years now, since before she had her son, but now I will be employing her properly!

I work in construction but I am setting up as a consultant (if the letter ever arrives). I have no worries about my assistant skiving, she works harder than I do!!! But I would like to have some rules in place so we both know where we stand.

Thanks ladies - you really can get help for everything here can't you!!!
