I grew up in North Wales and generally I'm quite immune to it, having spent so much time there.
But one place that I am always amazed by is Betws-y-coed (not too far from the Llandudno coast). It's lies in the middle of some beautiful secluded countryside and has lots of walks and mountain biking.....maybe even canoeing and whitewater rafting etc (if I remember correctly).
Another place that's definitely worth a visit is Llangollen. Similar to Betws-y-coed in terms of things to do, but it's a bit more of a developed town.....a bit less isolated. Other main 'attractions' there include a steam railway and the national Doctor Who museum. Again, there's some awesome walks to be had in the hills/mountains, as well as plenty of water sports on the river.
In terms of beaches, I would avoid the main north coast (Rhyl, Llandudno etc) and head west to the Llun peninsula (pronounced "Khlinn"), where the beaches are generally cleaner and less touristy.0 -
There's always Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychchwyndrobwyllllantysiliogogogoch
and Anglesey, some nice beaches there. Climb Snowdon?I haven't got one!0 -
Criccieth is a good place to visit, lovely beaches and a smashing ice-cream parlour. There is also a castle. The beaches to the left and right of the castle prohibit dogs between May and September but if you carry on the front on the right hand side of the castle dogs are allowed at anytime.
Port Merrion is also worth a visit although it's a bit expensive.0 -
Cheekyemole you spelt it wrong!
To be honest there is a long station name there for you to have your picture taken and little else - unless you count a Pringles clothes shop and cafe.
A few miles away in Brynsiencyn you could visit the Sea Zoo and where they make sea salt.0 -

I agree with mexicawaver about Betws and Llangollen - lovely. Portmerion near Porthmadog is worth a look too. I recently visited Conwy and it's a lovely town - with lots of places to visit.
If you like castles there are plenty to see and you shouldn't miss out on Caernarfon.
Have a look though the info here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/wales/northwest/sites/towns/
Abersoch - and the peninsula is lovely.
Have fun!

If you go to Conwy, make sure you go to the smallest house in the UK, just so you can get a picture.
Try Bodelwydden (sp?)castle, Dyseth (sp?) lovely walk and waterfall. Last summer bank holiday, we bumped into Carol Vordeman at the duck race & took sneaky pics to prove theat 'celebs' holidayed in the same sorts of places we do.
Llandodno (sp?) is also really cool to have a wander round too!
