Is this perhaps specific to either debit cards or Italy? I ask, because I have never been expected to pay for my rentals prior to picking up the car. Apart from that, the idea that the price can go up between making the reservation and charging the card is ridiculous. An email confirmation is a quotation and tells you how much you have to pay (although currency conversions may vary it a little). Which Avis web site did you go through?

    Hi,

I just got back from Majorca last Sat night, we had a focus for 10 days from carjet.co.uk for 222euros.

No problems with booking, car was with europar goldcar, no problems, car was as promised. Would definately reccomend, most people are given upgrades on their cars as well, (I didn't but 2 other people that were there did - I was happy with a Focus)

Note I got changed 66euros for a full tank of fuel on top, which wasn't too bad, as it cost me 58euros to fill it up myself at none airport rates.

keep an eye out on carjet as they often have 10% discounts on & you cancel the car hire at anytime & rebook at the best rate.

    Unknown about debit cards.

I used avis.co.uk - there are significant savings on there if you opt to pay up front but no refunds if you cancel.

In fact this would have been much worse if I'd had to try and sort it out at the depot in Italy.

I spoke to them again and they agreed to process a refund today. I'm awaiting a phone call to confirm this has been done.
  • Hi

I need to hire a car from Palma airport for one week. We will be arriving at midnight on a Sunday / Monday so we need to be able to pick the car up out of normal hours.

Does anyone know of a competitively priced company that is open at this time?

I am guessing that this is not an unusual request as it is a very busy airport.

BTW, by booking flights and hotel direct we saved £720.00 on the package deal. How's that for money saving? :j

    Many Thanks

    Andrew

I have used holiday autos twice this year.I am getting double discount.
I Firstly go to holidayautos via my topcashback account and get £7.50 cashback.
once in the holidayauotos site I paste in the link from a bcma (The British Complementary Medicine Association) This way you enter to get your cashback and then go throght to get the 10% discount.
    Works everytime
eg £80 qoute from holidayautos via there website direct
£72 if you go via the shortcut from bcma (10% off)
    but my method gets £7.50 and 10% off (£80-£8-£7.50) I pay £72 - THE £7.50 CASHBACK £67.50
