  • Hi Beech, do remember that there is more than just the base price to consider which you should always ask when you phone, such as

Are there amendment fees if you need to change your booking?
Are there cancellation fees if you need to cancel?
    Do they charge admin fees?
Do they charge credit card fees?
Are there any extras that will be charged at the location?

Also remember that there will be additional charges for things such as extra drivers, baby seats, roof racks, one way fees (if you need to pick up at one place and drop off at another) plus all companies tend to charge extra for drivers under 25's.

Possible most importantly, you should check out the insurance cover you have and how much extra it would be to get a fully inclusive policy - most brokers have some sort of package you can purchase (cdw etc). Most companies also have a 'beat rate' type policy so it's always worth getting your first quote then phoning up the next company to see if the can beat it. If you have the time this can save you money.

    I hope this all helps!

thanks for your replys. I wondered what shopping engines are good to go though to reach website like nectar uses hertz, that way i can get points too. Its a pity i cant use my clubcard vouchers.

I am considering haveing a car for maybe a couple of days from the resort and then leaving it at the airport. Does anyone know if this is possible to do. Then i could get a taxi from the airport and use the car to get me back to the airport. Just another thought it may cost just as much

    Thanks

We're going in August and need a car for 9 days. Pick up & drop at Airport (daytime) Got a price from Holiday Autos at £209 for compact 4 dr with a/c but not sure if that is competitive? Anyone out there able to advise. Thanks.

Seems pretty good, worth checking carjet.co.uk, similar prices but no cdw excess, £25 with holidayautos, also no extra charge for extra drivers, child seats or a roof rack, if you need these.

I have just tried travelsupermarket.com. A medium family (is this compact?) 4dr a/c going 5/8 for 9 days, driver age 32 was £175 through ebookers. You could also go through quidco and get cashback.

I think that they are part of nectar, so you could scoop nectar points too!!

Just back from the Algarve and as previous post mentions there were no questions asked (maybe down to how busy they were!)....

Thanks for the code - I would recommend it to anyone - saved us approx £75 for a two week rental!

  • Thanks Supermum

You've just saved me nearly £150!!

We are a family of 6 travelling to Bergerac at the end of August. None of the other rental companies could offer me any sort of people carrier and I was facing the prospect of hiring two small cars and asking my 23 yr old son to drive one of them. The under-25 surcharge was going to be more than the cost of the car hire for the second car!

Anyway, in desperation I decided to look on Martin's web-site and in response to your post tried Hertz who I had not even thought of before. Not only did they have a 7-seater Zafira available, but it was cheaper than all the other companies who were offering people carriers but had none available. :T

    Chuffed to bits.

Hertz are OK. I have used them for years for business travel although I now use Avis.

It worth registering for a Hertz #1 Club Gold card which is free. You then setup all your details on the web including driving license, credit card etc. Then whenever you make a booking with your gold card the rental agreement is pre-printed and ready to go. For US rentals it is even better because all you do is look up your name on a big digital display, then go straight to your car which has the rental agreement hanging off the rear view mirror. No need to join a single queue.

Can anyone tell me if its much cheaper to hire a car in advance or wait untill we get to Majorca, also, which are the best/most reasonable places to hire from? We are looking for a 7 seater for 5 days, the best quote so far is from
https://www.carrentals.co.uk and is £239 which seems really good.

    Many thanks,

I booked a car for 10 days in Italy last weekend for July/August, total price £158 using the code above.

I received email confirmation and my rental voucher BUT my debit card has been charged £255!

When I queried this today the CSR quoted a different code than the one I had entered and confirmed that the price was correct at £255. I pointed out that I had email confirmation of the quote and my booking and the girl said I would have to claim it back after the trip!

This is a hole of almost £100 in my bank account for potentially 6 weeks or more, assuming they could sort it out at all.

I was obviously not prepared to accept this so she went away and came back and said it was a "system errror" and that the price had gone up between me making the reservation and being charged.

They are trying to sort out a refund of the difference. I'll be chasing this tomorrow.

Anyone using these codes - check your statements!
