As for shows fell asleep in Lion King ! Jersey Boys, Billy Elliot both good. Been to see a few plays ............ but again fell asleep (but not snoring like the Woman behind us !) Wife wants to go and see something to do with Charlie Chaplin in January Yawn !

At last, someone who was as bored with the Lion King as I was!!!!! Thought it was just me.0 -
Any reason I shouldn't get this pass? Most advice seems to be avoid like the plague. Seems like it will save me money for what my party want to do though.
ESB ($25)
ToTR ($25)
Circle Line Cruise ($34) - ($29 if book on website $5 off)
AMoNH ($25)
Pass ($89) (ESB,ToTR,AMoNH,MoMA,Met,Cruise)
I don't really want to go up both, but its first time for others so.
Wanted to visit SoL but closed for the foreseeable future, don't think its going to be open early Jan, on their facebook it says closed for 2012. So some kind harbour cruise next best thing.
Aware that the museum is pay what you want, but I did want to visit the planetarium which you have to pay $22 for if you pwyw.
Just seems like it will save $20 and give option to go to other museums... not too bother about those , but in the event of bad weather might be something , we'd be thankful for.
Advice & opinions appreciated.

Either ticketmaster or stubhub for tickets. Both very reliable
Use them with the seat viewer section on the official site to see your view.
Shows come down to personal choice of music v comedy v play.
Check the reviews and see what gets your interest going
No problem at all - very happy to give you information based on my experiencesbleepandbooster wrote: »Yuuuuup TM or SH are both fine for tickets. There are discounts you can get online or in person that that make things cheaper. For example, a TOTR and MoMA dual ticket only costs $38, not $50. It is all about researching and ensuring you WANT to visit places, and not just visiting places because "it is on the pass" and then you rush rush rush.
The only pass I recommend is the Go Select Pass. This one, you choose what you want to do, it adds it all up together, and gives you a discount. This means YOU choose what you want to do, which is much better than being TOLD what to do, by a company, only interested in making profit.
Also, do you really think that the attractions will get the full ticket value from these pass companies when you use it? No, they don't, it's agreed that they'll get much less, so the pass company can make a profit.
I've never bought a pass. Never found the need to, mainly because I do NOT like to overload my holiday.

The snoozing in the theartre may not only be the show .......... It could be age related (always dropping off when Corrie is on etc) and just being tired after walking miles etc !
We did the pass thing once ! A family member insisted that it was good VFM. As Mark and other people have said you become a slave to it rushing around thinking "I've got to tick all the boxes. We didn't and infact the family member who insisted missed the evening cruise thinghy with circle line cause she wanted to go back to the hotel for a lie down !
We also did the open top bus thing once, again friends we were with always do it when they travel to a new city ! First it started with the guy one the street giving us the wrong ticket ....... so we had to go to the main office to sort out a refund on the CC. Then you end up sitting on the bus stuck in traffic ! Thinking to yourself ...... could have walked quicker or should have got the subway ! To be fair the guides were very good, but you end up having to spend more again on tips. Which is less money for beer ! Our friends also found that when you get off the bus say at the ESB, you have a line already made with the other people on the bus unless you get off first.
So No Thanks ...... much rather be independent and do our own thing. But different strokes for different folks !

Appreciate your responses, and agree that independent normally always seems the way to go.
What I was highlighting was the list of 4 things we WANTED to do (ESB,ToTR,AMoNH+planetarium & harbour cruise ... wanted to do SoL but harbour cruise fair substitute) ... is cheaper buying the CityPass, than booking these independent. (not bothered about MoMA so the combi tix no good - although appreciate that if this is something we wanted, it would affect calculation and value-for-monies worth of the pass.)
So given that the things which WE WANT to do are covered by the pass and the individual cost is more ... is there a downside to the pass that I'm not seeing?
In all honesty I hadn't even considered a pass when I was looking to do the SoL because it was much more favourable to book an allocated time, but now this isn't an option, looked into circle-line cruises and then did a little bit of investigating into this pass. I also totally buy into the 'slave to the pass' idea, I came across the other pass that has like 70 attractions on and i think your absolutely correct here that people are going to be visiting things just to get their values worth rather than exploring where they actually want to go.
But we listed where we wanted to go in NY (SoL -> H.Cruise , 9/11 Memorial, Knicks/Nets Game, Spot of shopping, AmoNH, CP Ice Rink, ESB, ToTR & a show) ... and this particular pass had 4/6 items on it that were on our list at a cheaper rate than purchasing individually from the respective attractions themselves.
I think the question I'm actually asking is do people not recommend this pass because, often it provides people with a false sense of savings or encourages them to do things they don't want to do... or are there other reasons which aren't readily apparent.
Thanks as always (I believe I may have written the same thing twice paraphrased slightly different - so sorry!)

Lion King in the Minskoff is the best show i have ever seen and i was in tears within 5mins. Seen it in 2 other venues (london & Disney) and all good but NYC was much better. As others have said dont be a slave to timing and you will find your way and do what you want to do. ToTR is fab and a very special time but i wouldnt wait for 90 minutes + at the wrong part of a nice day to go up . Plus i wouldnt go up on a poor day which it maybe even if you buy ticks in advance . There are discounts around to get into good attractions once you have set your pace and bearings . Another thought if there is a decent sized group, think about a matinee show as come to night time shows there will be a few of you all bleeped and boostered out. hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0

Hey there Joe, If you have sat down, looked at ALL the available passes, and made sure that you have checked out linked deals, etc etc, then why do you need someone to tell you to buy it. I understand your trepidation, the NY Pass is the one that bundles loads in, for a set amount of days, and that's the one that people become a slave to the pass. City Pass is slightly different, but it is still a LOT to do, in what could be a short holiday.
If you think you have enough time, and won't get exhausted going to three museums, seeing NYC from a height, twice, then go for it. I personally think that 1 museum, 1 high height, and the cruise is a nice balanced attraction for a few days in NYC, you could spend all DAY at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. You still have to squeeze in your shopping, ice rink, central park, a show, and an NBA game, and you've not even left Manhattan!!
Just make sure your holiday isn't just attractions. If I look at all of those six, that to me is around 4-5 days of holiday easily. Make sure you have plenty of time to just wander around. Visit The Village, Financial District, choose an area of Queens to visit, same goes for Brooklyn. NYC isn't just attractions, and I fully understand you WANT to visit these things, but overloading things, just makes it exhausting.
Hope that helps you making your choice..

The William's household is getting very excited about their NY trip and was wondering if anyone had used the post offices' travel money card plus. How have others carried currency in the US?0
