You don't want to be searching for a One-Way flight. Firstly, the price, economy returns are always cheaper. What you could look for is a multi city ticket. You can do searches for things like this on kayak, and you'll search LHR - ORD - JFK - LHR. You may struggle doing a route like that with BA, but the likes of Delta, American Airlines, Continental/United will be fine.

The other option is to fly into JFK, and then book a separate ticket to head up to Chicago, however, if you miss your connection, it won't be on a single ticket / itinerary.

    Hello hello hello!

Well, i've finally wandered out of the 'Vegas' thread and we're thinking of doing something other than West Coast america so where else to start other than New York? Obviously, there's a lot of pages here but i've tried my best to have a good look around (though not exactly ploughed through every post of the thread) - I have a quick question based on tips of saving cash by staying in Brooklyn etc

The important factor is that we want to keep our flight, hotel and day to day travel expenses (and time to an extent) to a minimum so, we've looked at staying near Central Park, and also in Brooklyn. These are the (standout) cheap hotels offered when looking at package flight / hotels on Expedia.

(have linked to TripAdvisor so you can see there locations easily on the map on the right hand side!)

    Super 8 Brooklyn - http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g60827-d1751698-Reviews-Super_8_Brooklyn-Brooklyn_New_York.html#REVIEWS

Comfort Inn Central West Park - http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g60763-d99447-Reviews-Comfort_Inn_Central_Park_West-New_York_City_New_York.html#REVIEWS

The Super 8 will give us a total saving of £400 over 5 nights compared to the Comfort Inn... so the question is, does it seem worth the saving? I'm guessing we'd end up buying subway passes no matter where we stayed? The quoted time to get to downtown manhatten from the Super 8 (according to Trip Advisor reviews) is around 15-20mins which is probably comparable to how long we travel to get into town from where we live at the moment.

Any advice (of any kind!) is welcome! :)

    Thinking:
    Outbound - 27/12
    Return - 01/01

Could / would possibly go out a day earlier on 26th and do the extra day (still come back 01/01) if the difference was negligible though :) (ie. for the Super 8 package, it would cost us a whole £30 for the extra day in NY so tempted to do that)

(...let me know if we've picked a bad time of the year to go - it falls in line with the only holidays we have left though so its then or nothing!! :) )

Don't think there is a bad time of year, but it will be a very cold time of year. We went for Thanksgiving last year and the last couple of days were so cold you just had to keep stopping inside for a warm drink as it chilled you right to the bone.

However, it was very very beautiful, and I was glad to have experienced it.

Assuming lastminute.com pass the details on properly that is...

    Hi Boblibarn,

We stayed just across from Penn Station in Midtown! I found it very good - Penn Station was handy to get the subway uptown and downtown - very easy! ... it's a few blocks south of times square - 8-10min walk..... few blocks west of the Empire State building and directly across from Madison Square Garden! ... I enjoyed staying there..

Going in September time and this time we are staying right on central park at Jumeirah Essex House - it's 4.5* and seems like it should be a nice, good and different place to stay.

There's some nice hotels few blocks north of times square between broadway and fifth avenue...not a bad place to stay either..

I wouldn't suggest staying in Times Square - too busy, hotels are expensive etc...M4RKM will agree with that....

Have a look at Affinia Manhattan (that's where we stayed across from Penn Station) and The Roosevelt....those are just off the top of my head though so other people can suggest others...

    :)
