birmn - I know this sounds silly, but have you e-mailed the hotel to ask for their best price? I did for my hotel stay in March, and got discount, plus a room upgrade. The price you are showing is the standard hotel price, less 12% for the cashback (assuming you've taken the 12% off the price you've posted there).
It's worth a try. Double check lastminute.com as it should be fully cancellable, meaning if prices drop (and august is normally a bit cheaper because of the weather, and it's more of a low season), you can book the cheaper price.

Thanks M, I've emailed the hotel and will wait for a reply, their website does say best rate guarenteed, however it doesn't take into account cashback that I can get. You were right the rates I'd quoted were including cashback.0

Hmm, Flights for April next year. IMO £550 is expensive for flights, I've just done a quick Kayak search, and found flights for £526, which are direct. Not the best price, considering I've recently booked for September, and got £450, and back in March, I got £350. I'd think April should be much nearer then £450 point. Check back the prices in October or December, and then I think you'll be better off booking, because, you are kinda right, the prices start high, go down eventually, before sky rocketing back up.
Hi M4RKM,
We are also heading for the US next April, for a friend's wedding that means we don't have much choice over dates and will be there over Easter. Wedding is in Connecticut, so we will likely be flying to/from New York.
Flights are coming up at the moment from £380-390. Does that seem like it's as cheap as they're likely to get, or is it still worth waiting a couple of months do you think?
Hotels we'll certainly wait a bit longer, unless there is a good package with flights as we will want to spend a couple of nights in New York.0 -
mynameisclare - Hmm... £380 ain't a bad price, but who is it with, and what airport is it? Easter normally increases the prices, so if you're seeing decent flight times, and you're happy to pay that, I'd book it.
I've just paid £450 for September....0 -
I also would like to know where the £380 flights are from and who with?:smileyhea A SMILE COSTS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING0

After a bit of advise really,
Looking for a cheapish hotel in NYC in December, hoping to get a week away for some Christmas shopping with the wife, looking now it seems about £900 pp is the going rate, as a NYC virgin i know nothing really and hoping i can get this at a much cheaper price, is that going to happen or am i just kidding myself?
Also spending cash, what sort of average price and im looking at per day, excluding presents, dont really do theaters or shows so its mainly food and sight seeing.
thanks:beer:0 -

It depends on the dates really and, largely, where you intend to stay. Manhattan is closest to most things of course, but staying in accommodation there can be three times the price of staying in Brooklyn or Queens.
The latter two boroughs are further out and, depending on exactly where your hotel is, could mean at the very least a 30 minute train journey in to Manhattan. But then your £900 could become only £300. Depends on your priorities I guess, everyone's different.0 -

It was Delta LHR to JFK. Looks like we should really book ASAP once we have set the dates, they seem to be disappearing already.0 -
if it is Delta, double check the "Class" of travel. Economy (T) is the lowest, and if it is that both ways, then that's the lowest price really.
Check on Delta.com as if there is only 1 ticket left, it will state that. (search only for 1 ticket, rather than 2)0 -
...could mean at the very least a 30 minute train journey in to Manhattan...
You can stay in Long Island City in Queens which is about 15 minutes out of Manhattan or Williamsburg, Brooklyn which is less than 10. No 30 minute journey needed if you stay in the right area. Now if you stay out on Queens Boulevard, or around Downtown Brooklyn, then yeah, it'll take around 30 minutes to hit Midtown, but not always.
£900 per person will never come to £300 per person, when flights are exceeding £400 right now either. I'm assuming that Kingsd316 has looked at a package, rather than flight / hotels separately.
