Looks good that yotel, but however cheap it sounds, it really does depend if you can even find one of those rates. Supply and demand though. If other hotels are drop their prices, then others will drop too

Even the small rooms are nice, and it looks like they all have windows, but after staying in a brand new hotel in March for 1 night, I'd make sure you leave it a few months for all the paint to dry. Also, it's nearly a mile away from Times Square, all the way over on 10th Avenue, so the location might not be the greatest, or the nicest.

So let me get this straight - you think a 15 minute walk to Times Square is too much for the average MSEer and you're advising people to ignore a cheap introductory offer " for all the paint to dry. "

I had no trouble finding $149 dates in the summer.

I also think you need to climb down off your high horse occasionally and remember this is a money saving forum and not your personal website.
  • Not visited this site for a while but so nice to see that some people are still lording it over mere first time visitors rather than taking a less patronising approach. Many moons ago I mentioned the Brooklyn Brewery tour on Friday nights and the Heartland Brewery in my review of my trip (not my first time as my family live in Queens). Mark acknowledged my review but felt compelled to point out that Heartlands is a chain (presumably a bad thing). Odd that since he has mentioned Heartlands in his pub crawl and has also referred to visiting the Brooklyn Brewery! Why dig at folk for visiting a chain rather than say thanks for highlighting the brewery? Personal choice?

Your post reflects very accurately the feelings I have towards the whole New York section of the Overseas Travel thread.

Whilst no-one would deny the effort Mark has put in to the Sticky at the head of it, cutting and pasting the contributions of many people, subsequent posts from him would appear to suggest that he has come to regard this section as his own personal fiefdom.

    Even his signature is condescending.

Everyone has their own personal take on New York based on many different experiences and there really isn't a right or wrong way to do the city.

I've probably been there 50 or 60 times over the years on business and pleasure, ranging from being an impoverished student with a rucksack staying at the " Y " to everything on expenses at the Algonquin.

It still doesn't make me the world's greatest expert on the place and I certainly wouldn't wish to be sanctimonious about other people's opinions because I always hope to learn something new every day.

And it really isn't necessary on here to feel the need to react to every single post.

My daughter and friend have just returned and stayed at the Salisbury. They have been to NY before but said the location of this hotel was superb - easy access to lots of touristy stuff ( don't be put off by people sneering at doing "tourist" stuff - in my opinion no matter how many times you visit and unless you live there, you will always be a tourist!).

I have not checked the prices for when you want to go and it is not plush but the room was pretty big and they had a small kitchen with sink and microwave. They went with Virgin and paid around £830 for 5 nights which I did not think was too bad at all. Hope you enjoy your trip.

I got back Monday, had a great time, stayed at Cassa Hotel and Residences, between 5th and 6th Avenue, so for us location was excellent. Stayed 4 nights, (wed-sun) flew Virgin, premium economy out and economy back, flights and hotel £606 each, which we thought was a great price!

So i'm guessing flights in august are going to cost around £8-900 then? A far cry from 2009 when I got £300 return :(
