Hi
I wouldn't try to follow that guide, it's dated 2007.
When I look in my Ubuntu I see that Firefox isn't installed in usr/lib like it suggests, it's in it's own mozilla directory instead.
I think you need advice from somebody who uses Linux Lupus to help you.
Good luck

Did you mean Linpus? I think Lupus is a disease.
Try just downloading the package for Linux directly from firefox.com. Unpack it somewhere (e.g. /opt) and just run the "firefox" executable you find inside.
It might just work (depending on your distribution). Then you can just ignore your existing Firefox or delete it at your convenience.0 -

Sounds like you're not a command line (terminal) fan.
OK, have you got as far as downloading 3.6 from firefox.com?
The file is usually encoded in "bzip2". This works a bit like zip on windows but is a different format. Step one is you need to extract it. Try double clicking it and a program might pop up that helps you do that depending on how helpful Linpus is.
Once you've got it extracted somewhere (anywhere), find the file called "firefox" and try double clicking it. Chances are if you've got any version of firefox working previously, then you have the right libraries installed already. In which case 3.6 may work OK without any trouble. If it chucks loads of errors, then you need further help.0 -
Maybe an off the wall suggestion but have you considered replacing the OS completely? I bought one of the early EeePC's which came with a custom version of Xandros installed (inc Firefox 2). I couldn't work out how to upgrade the software (and it ran out of space, due to its odd file system) so I decided to install Ubuntu Netbook Remix instead. It is so much better than the original OS and runs the latest versions of Firefox, Open Office etc. etc. Its worth doing I would say. You should be able to install it from a USB stick or SD Card.0
