Peadophiles register - how do i get the info on who is a sex offender?

It would have been good to see some responsibility go with the right to know about sex offenders living in your locality.
Something along the lines of all those that were informed about the offender are jointly & severally liable for any vigilante type actions taken against the person or their property. maybe something like that would curb any hysterical reactions. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. the whole megan's and sarahs law should be scrapped
what is potential knowing if your next door neighbour is going to prove anyway nothing
its just causes idiots to go round and give him a good kicking when he/she has perhaps done nothing
we used to live next door to a lovely guy and he used to give sweets to my young son he wouldnt hurt a fly then in the paper (i believe the news of the world ) they released the names of suspected !!!!!philes and he happened to have the same name as one of the listed and some lads in the street kicked him to deathReplies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If your reply cannot be nice, has an underlying issue, or you believe that you are God, please post in another forum. Thank you0 -

or how about proper data sharing?
if you were provided with information about an offender, they are also given the same amount of information on you
& if anyone spreads that information, they are prosecuted for revealing 'privelaged' information
or
anyone provided with the information has to undergo a full & complete background check, in the same way the police dig through peoples backgrounds0 -

if you dont know anything, & the offender dosnt commit any more offences, why would there be 'years of mental torture and heartache, and what if's' ?
do you want to know about the drunk driver down the road, who ran someone over?
your logic would be that they will drink drive again, & run someone over again
or what about the woman the other way up the road who routinely beats her kids?
is she going to beat your kids?
your logic says yes0 -
What happens when the "offender" has been convicted and put on the register and had his/her details plastered all around town and is then found to have been a victim of a miscarriage of justice?
The !!!!!! that goes with a sexual conviction sticks for life, reputation forever tarnished, would have to move out of the area and probably change their name to avoid being chased down by News of the World readers for the rest of their life.
The information generally in the public domain, it's called the local paper. If you want to know who in your area is dodgy, read the court report.
As for what do do with them on release, there is a difference in someone at 18 who pees in a public place a 3am on the way home from the pub to someone who is a real sex offender - they are both on the list, and if it was a simple public list, each would be tarred with the same brush.
The simple answer is that people who are a danger to the public/children should not be let out, sex offenders who are no longer deemed a danger should be tagged and tracked with proper resources to monitor where they actually are at all times.
The problem nowadays is that people get released, don't check in with the probabation service and suddenly disappear off the radar. Peter Tobin anyone?
It is not practical to simply make the list available, it's bad enough that the Police can chose to tell people. What exactly would most parents do if they discovered a sex offender living next door?
There is no easy answer to this - you can't lock people up for ever for anything other than the most serious crimes, the prison system can't cope, and the punishment has to fit the crime. Similarly it is not desirable to have many of these people roaming the streets freely, the same way that it is undesirable to have robbers, drug dealers, serial drink drivers etc etc roaming freely. ALL of these people pose a risk to society and in truth probably cause more harm to society than sex offenders.
What we need is less paranoia in society in general and more effort made to monitor and punish the people who actually are a risk, which needs to include common sense when rehousing them.Dogs have owners...my cat has slaves...0
