MancMillyMolly- you’ve finally explained why I’m quite a large lady as it’s just the
crafty and creative insides that are bursting to get out:D:D:D
and so back to business – a question “ Caterina in your official capacity as C.D.E would you recommend a career in the OS industry in today’s climate?????”
Don't worry midnight! gimme a home rather than house-any day !- OMG my toenails aren't the same colour as my fingernails:eek::eek::eek::eek:May you fill up the great clutterbucket of life and may all of your leaks be in cheese sauce
Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without:cool:0 -
i so very know what you mean when people react to you baking your own cakes etc, my closest friend scoffs when i make something, 'well it must be nice to have the time, and that she cant afford to cook, its too expensive' , yet if i make something for her she cant eat it fast enough! in all honesty it doesnt take that long to cook! ....
im a slave to my slow cooker, 1 for the ease, and 2 for the brilliant things it can do with cheaper cuts of meat!!
she could easily do the same, yet choses to spend her time and money n the pub.... or her partner decides they need various new gadgets for the house so they end up broke literally days after payday! then live on takeaways ...
she really upset me a few weeks ago telling me to get a life and realise that no one cooks anymore........ i did start questioning myself, but with a few weeks hindsight, perhaps it is her that needs to 'get a life' i cherish the time i spend cooking, and as others have said, i love making a meal for my dh, i hate spending money on something now unless necessary, we simply cant afford to!Please be nice to all moneysavers!

Hey Pebbles - you hang in there! Your life sounds a lot more fulfilled than your friend's. I know what it's like to have too much month left at the end of the money - but to be in that position just days after pay day would be awful!0

pebbles88 you just keep going girl! sounds like your friends actually jelous. perhaps offer to show her how to cook a recipe or two?"The purpose of Life is to spread and create Happiness" :j0

aw bless you both, thankyou.
i have tried, we recently had a few days away together and she refused to have anything to do in the kitchen.!!
i love cooking, its relaxing too me, but i appreciate that it isnt everyones cuppa! there are days i CBA for sure!!
admittedly my love of OS comes from being broke! pay day doesnt mean a lot in this house! but even still i enjoy taking a few things and making a nice meal!!
im just after a v simple bread recipe at the mo... something that hopefully doesnt require strong bread flour!! i have yeast (dried) flour (plain and SR) and oil herbs etc.
just not sure how to pop the lot together!!!Please be nice to all moneysavers!

Gosh this thread reminded me of something that happened recently. A friend's child was here and the adverts were on telly. There was an ad for a "new updated" version of something or other and he said "ooh we need one of those" I pointed out that they already had one, but the reply was "but this one is so much better!" When asked if I wanted one, I told him I already had everything I need. He looked around my living room searchingly and said "where?" Bllody cheek!
But as has been said many times before, home made food goes down VERY well , especially with kids of non OS parents.
I try my best but I'm sure I'll never be as good at OS as most of you here, but I DO try. My friends think I'm mad enough in my ways as it is.
I am truly in awe of the great stuff people do on here.0 -
Well the moment of self doubt is put on the back burner for a while for me as I felt totally rejeuvenated by the recent OS meetup! It was like abreath of fresh air talking to other OS'ers and hearing about their experiences and ideas on how to save money and "make do and mend"- very apt in light of the War Museum exhibition!
It was very apparent that the posters on the wall and propaganda etc were all designed to encourage everyone to make the best use of what they had -they really had no option then and I feel that the same is happening to more and more people with all the problems with money and job losses - I know it's supposed to be getting better but I feel a lot more safe in the knowledge that more and more of us are sticking to our guns on the old style way of looking at life and not feeling so scared to step up and say "nah! sorry I'm going to do things my way and if you won't make me feel small just because we don't have the same ideas or do things the same way":T I still keep re-reading the posts and my dd has just stitched up her old pink slippers (with black thread!) but who cares as I may just have got through to the next generation and I'm just a bit proud of her
May you fill up the great clutterbucket of life and may all of your leaks be in cheese sauce

People criticise your lifestyle when they feel it's an implicit criticism of their own. They're 'getting their retaliation in first'. Try commiserating with your auntie about how unsatisfying her shallow, commercial, unhealthy, ecologically unsound existence must be.
It'll make her hopping mad, and that's always fun with peeps who try to patronise you.0 -
PCB, my workmates laugh at me ,too. The thing is, my mum was OS, my sister is OS and I would consider myself OS so I've been brought up with it.
However,it's different strokes for different folks. Not everyone sees the need for OS ways and their ambitions are to have more of everything.
I leave them alone, they are going to have to work way longer than me , and pay their mortgagaes off way later than me. That's their choice. I certainly isn't mine.0 -
What makes me laugh is I'm the laziest moo out, yet I cook from scratch 'cos that's what cooking is. Everytime I've tried a ready meal, it's either been tasteless or nowhere near enough for ganets like myself and my OH (note to self - must learn portion control!!). Both my Mum and Dad cooked from scratch when I was young, so I s'pose I know no difference. I wish I could get the baking bug though, I tend not to bake much because I hate creating too much washing up, even though I have a dishwasher, certain things just don't go in!0
