OS living -a moment of self doubt
Comments

I'm getting there with the OS! I'm only 25, but I LOVE baking, I wish I had more time to do it. Anything I take into work gets devoured - lemon drizzle cake, corned beef hash, tea loaf...... even Mum gets annoyed because everything I bake turns out perfectly!
I'm changing shifts at work, so hopefully will have time to do a bit more cooking. I did make pasta carbonara last night which was gorgeous.
The only thing I struggle with is *whispers* I hate cleaning but then I live on my own, I work 12 hour shifts, and I'm never in so luckily the apartmenr doesn't get that dirty!0 -

on a lighter note, my friends little girl, 5 at the time, came home from school with her "news book" to show me, she had written about me, in her 5 year old spelling she had written
My auntie is magic, she made chips, out of potatoes:eek:
she had no idea they came from potatoes, and if asked where they did come from, she would answer - Asda, and so did her older sister and brother
they had no idea what food was originally before it was "made"
sad

The only fountain I wouldn't mind in my kitchen is one of those chocolate fountains

Hmmm @ OS/MSE dating site.. I think thats a great idea. One of the reasons that lead to my giving up on all that was that I never met anyone cos I never had the money(among other things) to go out..What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0

Breaks into song "Three coins in the fountain which one will the fountain bless? " mmmm... very old song I know but methinks it's the OS lot who've been blessed

I know what the fountain is in the kitchen for - saving pennies!!!
I think that an OS/MSE site might be a good idea -those fellas/partner's out there just don't know what they are missing!!!May you fill up the great clutterbucket of life and may all of your leaks be in cheese sauce
Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without:cool:0 -
Purpleclutterbuck - I've been meaning to say for ages how much I like your signature - the bit about leeks being in cheese sauce makes me smile every time I see a post from you. It also prompted me to have leeks in cheese sauce for dinner last night, for the first time in ages - thanks very much for putting the idea in my head! :beer:Back after a very long break!0

[Apologies, it's a little long!]
I've just read through all the posts on this thread and am really and truely inspired by you all!! :T
When I moved out of home and in with my now DH 10 years ago (I was 16) I came from a very OS family where we had to make do with many things, but all our meals were cooked from scratch and we always had clothes to wear (mostly from jumble sales and charity shops etc). At the time I couldn't wait to move out, find a job and my own way in life, which I did. As my salary increased and the tempting offers of credit cards were presented to me I shopped more and more getting into debt , but looking back now I can't really say I got any real joy or satisfaction out of it at all - aside of the 2-minute buzz at the checkout. I'd become a bit of a career girl without noticing (as well as being a Mum), and thought I deserved to treat myself.
This was a leading thought in me deciding to try and balance my life generally (and my finances!) much better than I had been previously. I had 'dabbled' in OS before (home made pizza instead of shop bought, and the like), but had never really considered it as a way of life being as I worked full-time, was a Mum of 2 and always assumed I just 'didn't have the time'.
Don't get me wrong, I'm still a newbie and have not been doing this for very long at all, but can already see the positive changes it is having on our lives. I enjoy doing many OS things so much, and we work as a team much more. There is laughter each evening in the kitchen when we are cooking and I've found I don't seem to be as moody as before - much to DH and DD's relief!! :rotfl:. And what has also amazed me is how enthused my Mum is that I am now doing many things she did with me as a child! And as it turns out, there is the time to be OS, I just have to use it wisely
I guess the ultimate point I am trying to make is that I aspire to be like many of you on here - I would never understand how people could turn their noses up at a way of life such as this. Indeed I wish I was home more to do even more OS things during the day, but maybe that's something for the future.....
I look forward to the many OS ideas I have yet to try, and being able to unleash the crafty and creative insides that are bursting to get out!
:D

Next time say "I am a Chief Domestic Engineer"!
I nearly got the "Domestic Engineer" job title on my marriage certificate, when we were getting married that is what I said when asked about my job, but my silly bu88er of a DH (still DH-to-be at that stage) started laughing and the registrar cottoned on, what a pity, I would have loved it to be a Certified Domestic Engineer! Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
her whole house is obscene
I LOVE my house, and i think i can say our house is a home
its warm, welcoming and relaxing
i think her house was designed & decorated by Liberae during his "i'm out my head on crack" phase
everything is OTT
last time i was there, i perched on the edge of the sofa for as long as was polite and left
no coffee was forth coming but i knew it wouldnt be
what a way to live
**sigh**
AND her nail polish always matched her outfit/suit
and she never does them herself
if thats how the other half live, you can keep it!0 -

But it would be nice to try for a while....I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll
