Isn't it wonderful to find there are so many of us out there? :D

My mum was a real career woman and so my granparents would pick me up from school and look after me until she had finished work. They were both born in 1907 so very OS! At the time it did seem a little boring being there but it's amazing how you subconciously absorb stuff when you are a kid. They made everything from scratch meals, clothes etc. Grandpa made my rabbits hutches, and granny was always making me toys and fudge. Every Xmas I would go a week before hand to help her make the crackers for the big day from loo rolls, old wrapping paper or wallpaper and ribbons - she even made the gifts to go inside, things like aprons or purses. Looking back I admire them so much and definately aim to reach their standard! I have totally shunned being a career girl, I stopped work at 19 to have my first baby and now even though my third "baby" is eleven I don't plan on going back (luckily my husband doesn't want me too either as long as I don't mind helping him man his shop now and then!)

I love baking, sewing, knitting and keeping house, but I do know how the OP felt - I was at my step brothers wedding a few years back and my husband and I were put on a table with strangers. The man next to me asked the person on his left whet they did etc and chatted for a while, then turned to me and asked the same. When I said I was a housewife he went "Oh", turned away and didn't talk to me again all evening!

We only had home-made cake at home. Mum was a splendid cook.
However when I went to a friend's Birthday Party (her mum was also a friend of my mum) imagine the look of horror on her face when me and my sister chose the bought battenburg cake over the obviously home-made cake that she had lovingly made as a special treat !
  • going back to being a "housewife"

    i am a housewife
all of you here, know what that entails, and the satisfaction derived from it

my SIL is also a "houesewife"
for her that entails having her nails done before meeting the girls for lunch, and going for a spa while the cleaner does the housework, and the nanny picks up the children

its that sort of housewife that has taken away the true meaning of being a proper housewife,
the housewife to be admired for their skills, dedication & achievements

the man who turned away, could have been my BIL:D
he doesnt have a housewife, wife or mother, he has a spending machine
  • It's great to get back into the swing of OS again with a renewed enthusiasm so thanks again for all the comments and support :T and just keep up the good work gals!
May you fill up the great clutterbucket of life and may all of your leaks be in cheese sauce:D
Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without:cool:
  • By the way midnightraven3 your SIL's defintion of "housewife" is the stuff of dreams/tv/films methinks - there is nothing quite like looking at a home-made cake, or something that you've knitted or made yourself - the sense of achievement is priceless and worth more than any thing money can buy!
