Welcome to the MSE forums dm49.

Sorry to hear about TT overcharging you. Remember, if TT took the money by DD, you have the DD Guarantee to get your money back.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

I was with one tel which then became TT. I notice now that TT don't have a free phone number for customer services.

I recently changed my package (evening & weekend calls for 3.99 + vat) to the one that offers free weekend calls for no fee.

I did my switching online & didn't have any hassles & received confirmation of the change via snail mail a few days later.

I have now been a customer of talk talk for 2 months - I signed up for the "free" broadband - I had my phone connected by begining of may and broadband by the end of May - I have had to phone the customer services number once for technical problem I had at the begining (my computer not talk talk) they were absolutely brilliant dealt with the problem there and then - The broadband is only 1meg at the moment untill the local exchange is unbundled which is due to happen at the end of the year - I have had no problems with the broadband service it is 10 times better than tesco broadband who I was with previously but we wont get into that.

At least they have 1 satisfied customer.

this is so funny (well, I don't mean in a humourous way, obviously) because in the Carphone Warehouse yesterday afternoon the salesperson tried to convince me to change my home phone to TalkTalk, whereupon I told him that although I couldn't argue that he was quoting me a good price, I had heard that their customer service was beyond dreadful. He agreed that they had recently been inundated with customers and couldn't cope, but that that was all in the past and that now anyone ringing TalkTalk would get to speak to a real person within about 30 secs. Sounds like that might have been a fib...

Then he said " you know, they can't just bring people in off the street to work for them, they have to make sure they are recruiting quality staff, thats why it takes a while to sort these things out". Given that he had just tried to 'save me money' by wanting to raise my £18 a month tarriff to £40 a month......and five minutes earlier had enquired after my newborn baby when I am so heavily (and obviously) pregnant that I was having difficulty leaning across the desk to look at the computer screen he was trying to show me, it was all I could do to smile sweetly and agree with him, when actually what I wanted to say was that based on evidence gained within the past ten minutes, this type of recruitment approach seems to be working fine and dandy for the Carphone Warehouse......
  • Talk Talk have given me the complete run around.

They have nessed up my payments on 4 seperate occasions, barred my phone, promised me credit then denied they had, cut off my broadband, take hours to answer the phone, have woeful internal communications - DO NOT USE TALK TALK!!

Free broadband and cheap calls may be great - but they have to be working in the first place to be of any value.

They also have a lot of hidden charges...and they will charge me £70 to return to BT.. I wish I could get free legal advise on this...HELP

If you call TT on the Customer Services number shown on your bills (0870 444 1820) from a TT CPS line the call appears on your bill but it is free. Or at least it has been for me for the last 18 months.

BT are not much better. They had engineers outside my house working on next doors line and when they left my phone was dead. I called them on my mobile and they said they would come to repair it in the next 3-7 days. When I asked if the two repair men couldn't just turn round I was told it didn't work like that. The lady asked if I would like text updates on the repair I said yes and five minutes later got one saying

"YOUR FAULT HAS BEEN LOGGED, FOR MORE INFORMATION VISIT WWW.BT.CO.UK" If I could have done this I WOULD NOT HAVE HAD A FAULT.

I canceled talktalk in January and moved to another internet supplier after terrable slow service.

I still keep getting random bills from them, as i can never get through to customer services, they go unpaid.

Once i did get through to customer services and the kind Indian call center lady said it was their fault and the dept has been cancelled.

Now i have had a creditors notice of intended prosuction!

I have resorted to writing a letter to their head office and sending it recorded delivery to sort this out.

    This company is a fast.
    Avoid them at all costs!
