Why do you not go to the Gas Safe website put in your postcode and get some quotes from the people listed. Gas Safe are independent and you will get a mix of big and small companies. I personally would not use BG they are no better than any other company out there.

Captain Vimes would know a good installer!

  • in your opinion ..i would say you dont know what you are talking about .....

BG fit more boilers than any other company in the uk and we have a great NPS ..all our customers can't be wrong ..

just because there gas safe reg doesnt mean they will do the job right ..i have spoken to somebody today who had a gassafe reg installer fit him a boiler before christmas and it still not working now and when the manu came out they said the boiler has not been installed correctly and also the gas is undersized ..

this is why i have said to be carefull ..yes there are good engineers out there it is just hard to know who is good and who is not good

I know exactly what I am talking about thank you. If we want to go down the route of who does what I am more than happy to. I have been to jobs where BG have in my opinion mis sold and told downright lies to sell a service or boiler. You yourself have quoted BG as selling cheap rubbish boilers for a lot of money along with several other questionable practices all quoted by yourself. You seem to have a ready answer for all situations and all scenarios, I find that disconcerting along with others.
I also wonder what your present employers would think if they realised what was being said by an employee about their business.
You may have years of experience but it is people such as yourself who think they are infallible that tend to make a mistake, read something incorrectly or just plain misunderstand what someone has said. This then means that because you are so sure you are right you do not question your reply and the person acting on that advice given by you is the end loser. By the way have you applied for the scrappage scheme for your mothers boiler you fitted before the scheme went live?

  • Capita guy - I wish Commander Vimes were here - he would sort out the rabble three doors down. I agree with Sybil - there is something dashing about him :o

Well, two quotes so far (from people on the gas safe website - thank you!) one at around £2500 for a Valens, one at around £1800 for a Worcester Bosch. British Gas on Tuesday.

It was quite odd. I am normally deeply suspicious of the cheapest quote, but felt a bit more comfortable with the man giving the cheaper quote. It may rise, after all, but allowing for that is not going to be unreasonable. The cheaper quote is also going to give a written quote with what is included. The more expensive gave a verbal quote, but I have a regrettably good memory for some things. The two quotes both came from people based less than a mile from our house.

just heard we have some sort of price match thing going on at the moment as a trial (not sure if it is the same in your area) so you may find that bg will be able to match the price ..like for like job ..quote has to be in writing ,,

Thank you - that is really useful information.

I would still, no matter what BG may be offering in matching quotes still go with the independent or smaller company. BG will find some way of making more out of you.
If they can match or better other prices why do they insist in selling to most at rip off prices? Thay are no better than any other company out there, they rely on peoples misconception from the days when they were state owned. Today all thay are interested in is the dividend to share holders.

Have you no Carrot in your road to help with the rowdies???
  • you know nothing about me or how i work ..as i know nothing about you or how you work ..half of the things you post do not make sense ..
BG would never try and mis sell anything ..if they did then trading standards would be on them like a ton of bricks.
i have said they sell cheap rubbish (not sure if i did or didnt but often boilers that seem to be good are bought as a big deal cheaply )but they turn out not always to be the best boilers ..but BG will go back and mend them as much as is needed..
what would they think (i am not sure)but i am here to try and help people and try and point them in the right dirrection ..but it seems there are a lot of people on here that think they know a lot but attack me at the slightest thing ..not sure why ..i have only tried to help..

the people such as myself quote is very strange you know nothing about me ..i am often wrong about things but can easy turn on my bg laptop to find out the answer in most cases ..

you carry on atacking me you are just making your self look like a fool because i can check on every question i answer to see if i am right or wrong on my bg laptop ..if i am wrong with anything i would be the first to say that i am sorry and hold my hand up (happens less and less now)

now if you having nothing good to say dont say anything ...

now please can we get back on topic because you are boring me now

I have plenty to say but only to someone who can understand. Perhaps you think my posts do not make sense because I do not use the dodgy spelling and grammar you think is correct.

Alas - locally we only have a Corporal Nobbs!

I will see what British Gas say.

btw - the office (not the engineers) - On Sunday 24 Jan I booked this quote for 2 Feb. On Tues 26 Jan I got a call from BG suggesting that I book an appointment with someone to fit a new boiler. It doesn't fill me with confidence. Not with engineers, I hasten to add, but the office are appalling.
