I made a sausage, potato and onion pie, and with the remains of the potato and onion I made some pasties for lunchboxes. I also made some pasties using up some of the left over chilli from last night.

    I've got 4 loaves rising.
Now that's what I call money saving!

Someone on another thread said they did that with any leftovers, even if there were only a couple of tablespoons of leftovers. They made little pies for their OH's lunchbox. Great tips from people on these threads aren't they? :T

  • Does anyone have tips to cook potatos and come to mention it carrots in slow cooker? I had a stew in for 9h did open lid for nano second at 6h and the potatos are still crunchy! I chopped them 1cm or less thick and same for carrots. Its a small slowcooker should that make difference? Its been on high, do you have to part boil potatos and carrots or am I just buying nuclear ones!

Glad it's not just me that has problems getting potatoes and carrots to cook in the slow cooker! I tend to cook potatoes separately on the stove once everything else is nearly ready in the slow cooker. Don't generally bother with carrots these days as neither OH or I are particularly keen on them.

  • I'm on another of my "sitting up late waiting for the bread to cool" evenings. ;) I made a sundried tomato and parmesan loaf (yes, it's a mix :o but my excuse is that it specified only 40 minutes proving time:)) for DH's breakfast toast, having realised I was almost out of bread.

Thanks! Glad its not just me in the end I fished them out and made some instant mash which was ok with the stew but I was starving by this point.

Hello everyone!! Been a bit of a lurker for about a year:eek:. Teken me this long to actually post!!

Well, as I am dairy free and restricted diet due to Crohns disease this style of cooking / living is just perfect.

    Soooooo, today I made

Choc & coffee sponge cake - from frozen mixture from last batch
Lactofree cheese & onion scones (and bready sticks with off cuts)
Chicken, leak and parsnip pies (all leftovers :D) used the left over filling too as toast toppers for supper!
From the leftover (my favourite word) stock I didn't use in pie filling I reduced it down, added raw chopped veg from bottom of fridge, stock cube and now all I need to do in future is defrost, add water and hey presto....yummy soup!

Hopefully I'll be posting lots more!!

I'm a Crohnie and I'm proud of it!!! Also dairy free so love love love the OS thread for cooking from scratch! :D

  • Some flapjacks,millionaires shortbread,rock cakes,carrot cake and a coffee cake.
All but the rock cakes(my husbands favourite cake and the only one he'll eat) have been given away to my daughter and eldest granddaughter.
  • hello there - i'm a lurker too but thought i'd share this one. i made a torte all of my own creation! I wanted to use up a packet of ground almonds, so I basically did a victoria sandwhich sponge cake mixture but substituted the flour with the ground almonds & some cocoa. It didn't rise at all, and was very very dense. But very moist. And I covered it with a chocolatey/creamy icing and it is delicious. Very proud of myself.
