Hi angeltreats
I haven't decided which size of black bun I'll make.Well I had thought of doing it in a loaf tin,but might do a small round one.I'm off now for a few days,so will have the time the sort it out and then get the ingredients.I'll ask my Mum for some pointers when I speak to her next.
Let me know if you decide to do it.The Delia recipe sounds like a nice size.
Thanks for the potato bread recipe.Aren't crumpets a faff to make or is it quite straightforward? It's something I'd like to try,but never get round to.I think that I have a recipe.0 -
I love Bara Brith! I havent had any for years though!
my aunt used to make it (along with Teisen Lap) and hers was really yummy! but for some reason she served it with marmalade??????????? I prefered butter on mine. still - to each their own!
bit puzzled though arran - why a welsh recipe? (although I AM getting up the nerve to make some Tablet - I can remember tasting it as a child and thought it was the best sweet ever!)0 -
Hi, newbie here, hope you dont mind me joining, been reading different threads for a couple of weeks now and have been so impressed by everyone.
So today I decided to buy some flour etc and start to bake.
Made flabjacks but they didnt turn out very well, firm on the top but still very sticky on the bottom, will try harder next time. Also prepared an apple crumble with apples given to me by MIL from her friends orchard, this is for after tea tomorrow.
Will keep you posted on my future efforts.I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it.

I baked a Christmas cake but I think it's burnt. It said to bake it until a skewer came out clean and it never did. Now the fruit on top tastes burnt. Will the rest of it be burnt??0

Two sites that I like are
www.deliaonline.com
which has a forum,and
www.allrecipes.co.uk
which doesn't have a forum, but which has recipes varying from easy, moderately easy to challenging. You can also comment on recipes you have tried and submit your own.
Of course you will find a lot of recipes on this site too!0 -

I don't think it's possible to burn a cake all the way through.
You could always cut the top off,and then decorate with marzipan and icing to cover it.

Sorry about the delay marmiterulesok, but I haven't baked anything for a while.
I used a sweet pastry case from Mr T as a base, but you can make your own or use a biscuit base.
Filling ingredients: 1/2 cup sugar
2 tablespoons cornflour
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 cups whole milk
4 oz chopped choc or 2/3 cup choc chips ( I used 1/2 dark and 1/2 milk choc)
1/2 tablespoon vanilla extract
Combine the salt, cornflour and sugar in a medium saucepan. Add a little of the milk to make a paste. Heat the rest of the milk in another saucepan and bring up to a simmer. Pour onto the paste and stir gently to combine, to avoid making too many bubbles. Whisk in the choc pieces and vanilla. Return to the heat and bring to a gentle boil, whisking continuously until the pudding thickens.
Pour into the case and leave to cool to room temp, then chill in the fridge until ready to serve. Top with whipped cream and grated choc before serving.
It says it serves 4, but I cut it into 6 and everyone had trouble finishing their piece of it. You can also just pour the filling into a bowl/bowls and chill and eat like that.0
