I made some chocolate beetroot brownies today, to use up some beetroot. The recipe is here. They're lovely but unfortunately really quite expensive to make :(

Well we've just scoffed some, a square each with a bit of vanilla ice cream, and they were lovely. DH says he prefers 'normal' chocolate brownies, but I think I prefer these because they have a lovely texture. Do try them, they're very quick to make.

    Hi
I do have a proper tin for large cakes but wanted to make a thin slice one that can be cut into fingers because the kids only like a little bit and hubby isn't allowed a big piece cos he's diabetic.
I found the recipe now but i'll have to keep a close eye on how long to cook it for....wish me luck!!!;)
This is the sort of thing i wanna make...

One cake that I dream of making BTW is Black Bun.Has anyone made this?My Mum made it once,I was so impressed at her skill and it was,of course, delicious.I'm not even sure that I've got a black bun recipe.

I was just flicking through Delia's Happy Christmas and guess what, she has a black bun recipe! She uses a 15cm round cake tin, which is quite small, about 6". Oh I am tempted to have a go. I have all the ingredients... but nobody to help me eat it. Nobody seems to like fruit cake. What a pity you don't live near me, you could have helped! :rotfl:

Oh and re the potato bread, I can't find my recipe (haven't made it in a long time) so will have to ask my mum, but it's essentially this type of thing.

Edited to add: today I managed to get hold of rye flour so I have some rye & seed bread rising away happily, plus some batter for crumpets which I'll cook on my lovely new griddle. It was fantastic for chicken fajitas last night :D And I made some little bread rolls dusted with semolina, which we'll have with pork & apple burgers for tonight's dinner.
