The giving up/cutting down alcohol thread part VI
Comments
-
hi everyone, my and oh are really trying to cut down/stop drinking. OH has been drinking two bottles of red wine and a few beers each night...the other day he had 10 cans and a whole bottle of vodka. this is a lot isnt it???
I think its scared him. He has had 4 days dry and then five, hes drank today and fell asleep on the settee at 8pm....
Hope you dont mind me posting...just need to feel that we are not alone???
You are by no means alone. This drinking is quite common. However, just because it is not too unusual doesn't make it alright.
We all drink differeing amounts, and have had different journeys to finally get on a thread about alcohol. It's not so much how much we drink but how we feel that makes us want to cut down or give up.
There is no doubt that 2 bottles of wine a day + beers is harmful drinking. 'Normal' people just don't drink like that regularly.
I commend your efforts to stop. I was great at stopping drinking (like many on this thread), the problem was I couldn't stay stopped. If you find yourself unable to 'stay stopped' then try other things. I had to reach out for help, and realise that alcohol had a powerful grip on me, for me to able to put the drink down and stay happy.
If you read back through this thread you will see that many people have tried to give up drinking using will power alone. That has been successful for some, but not all. So often you read the phrases "I must be more vigilant next time", "I am never going to drink again", "I feel I have really let myself down again" etc
I did this and felt like this, and it was pretty miserable.
When I got help and realised I needed to change, then finally I could get a decent amount of time under my belt without drinking. It has been the best thing I have EVER done
Good luck0 -
Graeme if I could bottle you then I would (in the nicest possible way), you are always a tonic :A

Hi Liuhut and welcome to the thread you are not alone. I hope it gives you the support and help you are looking for. Your post doesn't mention your drinking, just his.

Evening all-
Am in a terrible place-skint, car needs MOT, 2 new tyres and exhaust and wiper blades and that's just the 'girly' things that I can spot.
Certain people are really upsetting my DS so therefore me. Very very angry about some people. Other people are merely irritating!
I so want to move, tempted to rent my house out so I can rentr somewhere else but on the other hand being pig headed and asking myself why should other people push me out!
Sorry for the rant-just had to let it all out!
But I haven't had a drink......what good would it do? None.LBM 10/08 £12510.74/0 -

I am feeling happier, just had a call from my lovely Ds so that has cheered Budgie up. however he has adopted a new habit: he says ABSOLUTELY all the time. I feel I am in a meeting or something. Go figure
Hey ho time for Bed soon, and I still have to put on my clean bedding. I know I should be more organised. I shall adopt a feduppys list.
To be honest not a productive day in the Budgie Hoooooooose, and I feel Fat Fat Fat. Ok its safe now moan over

Sorry to hear you are feeling low budgilicious
Here's a virtual hug from me :happylove
I found the flylady thread a mnassive help for me - it took me a long time to be able to achieve all levels plus not stopping on the thread reading it too! It really helps with the organisation - esp the flinging aspects and binbag dances if you have rubbish to fling or get rid of and never get round to. Plus HHC which are half hour challenges for various things - paperwork, phonecalls, tidying, cleaning, ironing etc etc.
Otherwise making a list of things to keep my super busy on days I feel low really helped me too. Keep me distracted and my mind distracted and stop me dwelling
Hope this helps
