There was a thread on MSE a few months ago about the same thing (The neighboors cat was getting on their car bonnet and scratching the paint work, it was one of my favourite MSE exchanges of all time.

A poster said "Simple you need these and posted a picture of a brick and a sack"

The OP replied "But if I through bricks at the cat they will damage my car"

    Brilliant

Here's a really effective barrier that is cheap (or free) and doesn't involve cruelty (much!) and is virtually invisible. .

You'll notice that the cat prefers particular area(s) of your garden. Go out and find some prickly branches - holly, hawthorn, brambles, blackberry stems, rose twigs. Cover as much of that area with the prickly stuff as you can. Get a few twigs and push them into the ground around the area. This will do the cat's head in. Their area is now off limits and they can't get comfy with all that holly around. They'll move to their second favourite spot.

Do the same with the bare earth in their second area. They'll be seriously hacked off with the changes that are taking place in your garden and it won't be as attractive as it once was.

    Good luck!
