We have deleted two smilies

:mad:Its such a shame that two rather insignificant smilies are removed, this will have NIL effect with abuse, and to be fair, any of the other smilies can be used for abuse purposes, you may as well have said "due to the misuse of these smilies, we are removing ALL smilies from the forums", however you have selected completely the wrong one when it comes to "confused", it simply means "I dont know", maybe you can insert new smilies to replace them with, maybe even a scratches head in confusion smilie.
However it is quite simple to re-post the smilies, they are readily available on the likes of flikr or photobucket, it just seems like the MSE team are making mountains out of molehills with this issue, selecting two of the less "abusive" smilies there is whilst leaving the rest of them WIDE OPEN to be abused, if the MSE team feel so (incorrectly) adamant that the only way to stop abuse is to remove the smilies, ALL of them should be removed.
This has got to be one of the most bizarre interventions I have ever seen done by the MSE team, it makes absolutely no sense at all and will have even LESS of an effect to the threat of new members getting abused.
It makes me worry what crackpot idea the team will think of removing next in order to keep this forum the happy forum it always has been, maybe the "thanks" button or even the "quote" button, just in case they too get abused.
There is only so much you can do to make the forums the popular and friendly place it should be, your really at the danger point of overdoing it now, its as if they have completely ran out of ideas, so are plucking any old random idea to better it.
WELL DONE, I see this idea will make a bucket load of difference to any newbies.

It does. Plenty of sarcastic, patronising, rude posts are thanked. Personally I'd rather have seen that go.
Along with many right wing, xenophobic, hate-filled messages. From Poland...with love.
They are (they're) sitting on the floor.
Their books are lying on the floor.
The books are sitting just there on the floor.0 -
If smilies are to be such a contentious issue they should all be withdrawn the same way telling jokes in the Arms was.0

This is the funniest thing I've ever read :rotfl:
How sad really that people take offence to such a thing! Will it cut down on arguments? I doubt it.Wife and mother :jGrocery budget

I know this is Martins house,
but this place is a home for some people,
It feels like we are tenants here and the landlord comes round to fix a leaky tap,
But instead removes all your furniture because they don't like it.
Doesn't like the colour scheme you have, so paints the walls in colours they like,
and still doesn't fix the leaky tap.
The reasoning and explanation about the removal of the smilies is total nonsense,
I think we(members) all know that.
If there has been one mention on an abuse report about the misuseof the cconfused rolleyes(sarcastic) smiliesI will be amazed, and shocked if its more than 2.
Personally, I have never reported anyone for the misuse of smilies
I've probably reported about 500 - 1000 (maybe more?) posts/threads/users in my time on here for various things, but not for using smilies, I've reported and posted on 1000's of spam threads to stop abuse team getting multiple reports
Personally, I've replied to 1000's of newbies on DFW usually just a welcome, asking them a simple question, pointing them in the correct direction or going through their SOA
most of them included the banned smilies.
The best thing I can do is
just ask questions of the people that are helping me, while they are still on here.
MSE is becoming a very unwelcoming place , and it's not all to do with the members.
PS- fermi – I remember that forum design, the headache, eye strain, inducing totally unreadable version,
That was changed
Hopefully the nonsense of the last few days will be reversed.
