Er....what's so bad about CRT TVs?

  • I don't see why the OP would even consider replacing his tv when the old one is doing the job just fine! Not very MSE....

OP wait until the old one gives up the ghost and you will find by then the new LCDs are much cheaper. Production costs come down as more units are produced. Let the non mse wallies take the hit on high costs for "brand new" technology, a few years down the line reliability is likely to be improved too :)

Not sure why I get the sarcasm thrown at me. I'm sure every 15 year old in the country would laugh his butt off if he saw his mum bringing home a CRT TV, but most 70+ year olds I know are not bothered about technology. In the case of my dad, I'm not sure he's ever been on the internet - by himself at least. And AFAIK he doesn't have a mobile phone either. In contrast, my 12 year old son is now on his 4th (I think) mobile phone. Actually, a touch screen phone was his only wish for christmas.

What an incredibly sad comment on modern society! :(

I'd suggest you get your son out and about and doing things a 12 year old boy should be doing so that next christmas he asks for something more age appropriate like a bike or a football.

FYI: he is a football fanatic and plays as often as he can. I even have to stop him from kicking pillows around the house. No need to assume things you don't know about

To be honest, I'm a bit sick and tired of this thread, where some people tell me I'm ageist towards my dad, some people tell me my son should go out more, and several people say my opening question is even pointless. It's like it's a competition who can pick things out of my posts to moan about.

I think I'll make up my own mind on this matter and use Google for any additional info cause this has caused me nothing but grief really. Thanks to the people who has been helpful, but don't respond to this thread to help me anymore, cause I honestly can't be bothered to look at this thread from now on.

    Over and out. Yes, seriously.
