BT Steal Your Internet !!!

BEST ADVICE: Buy a new router!Nope, BETTER ADVICE: Use a different ISP!
Yep im gonna use another router but anoyed ill loose the nice DECT phone that comes with it.
I'm kinda stuck with BT as i live in a rural area. I get 2.5-3.0 meg speeds with BT, all other ISP say i will get 512kb max.0 -
I have a V2.0B Home Hub, Does'nt look like there is hacked firmware out for these ones yet.
Since getting BT to remove the FON virus from my router my internet speed has gone up half a meg overnight!!!!
Having FON on doesnt affect your sync speed, it just enables the additional wireless functionality in the router.0 -
Opting out of BT Fon is a mere mouse click, so there are not too many issues here. Equally, you can have your cake and eat it by simply not using a BT hub. You'll still qualify for free BT Fon use on the back of other accounts (depending on your package) but no-one will be able to access your 'own' bandwidth. It's hardly in the spirit of this package, but detailed in the small print.0

Bt should pay the customer who is transmiting FON a percentage of the money they make.0
-
Or reduce the bill for the customer by £1 per month for those who sign up to allow Fon. Win Win situation then.0

What a load of nonsense!
It's share and share alike. In return for occasionally sharing a tiny part of your bandwidth, you get the option of using hundreds if not thousands of wireless hotspots all over the UK and the rest of the world absolutely free.
What is the problem?

Watchout if your a new BT internet customer.
Their T&C's changed in December so they now enable BT FON as default which automaticaly enables your BT Homehub router as a wirless hotspot allowing paying users to connect to your router and use your bandwidth (which you pay BT for).
This is nothing short of theft. There may be thousands of BT customers unaware this is even happening.
This could open up a whole can of worms when the police kick your door down at 3am as someone on your IP address has been looking at illicit kiddy images.
Funny that its illigal for anyone to piggyback someone elses wifi connection but BT change their T&C's to make it Ok for them to do it to their own customer then re-sell it!
And the whole thing is also powered by MY electricity which i also pay for!
It took a 45 min phone call to custard services to get BT FON removed as (strangly) the opt-out feature on their website ( bt.com/btfon) was not working,
Check your wireless networks now to see if two new networks have popped up called "BTFON" and "BTOpenzone" If so then get on the phone to BT FON department on 0800 022 3322 and give then a piece of your mind.
I would not be so bad if they let their sharing customers use other FON hotspots, but you get a rather poor 250 mins while BT FON has a unlimited access to your bandwidth.
Get a grip BT.
The idea is a good one, but it should be voluntary to opt-in and sharers should get unlimited sharing rights on other hotspots.
Somehow you have it partly wrong, You have to pay for btfon to access it other wise you only get the bt fon page,it is a secure access and just uses the wireless links, so they use only the people who have agreed to bt fon, i have used btfon in places like macdonolds and hilton hotels, but its called openzone in these places,
I thinks it 5 quid for 2 hours(last time i used it) and secondly all your ip and share wi fi to who ever is the connection point is strictly phobited, you can only connect to bt fon wi fi only if you have a bt account or providers account such as orange,
if your so against then yeah contact bt but i live in a bt fon area as well as a cable area, My dad just told me also he makes money off the revune from sharing his broadband out on bt so he says, not exactly much but a few pence to pay for his paper mind, so it is a good idea,
hope that helps"MSE Money saving challenges..8/12/13 3,500 saved so far :j" p.s if i been helpfully please leave me a thank you but seek official advice at all times from a pro0 -

I find that hard to beleive because you share on adsl yout speed with other people on a network exchange so depending on ratio, if 200 people are on bt broadband around your way there using the less connection speed, so when your thinking your getting 8mg you probelly getting 2 or 4 mg per sec because of their exchange, dont beleive try out your broadband around 4.30-8.30 with a connection speed test online (google it) you will see your upload speed is lame and your download speed is not 8mg,
bt still dont use fiber optic like virgin media, its all a loop at there exchange, making all the speeds the same depending on how far you live form your exchange centre,"MSE Money saving challenges..8/12/13 3,500 saved so far :j" p.s if i been helpfully please leave me a thank you but seek official advice at all times from a pro0
