Skinny 3yr old dd - best place for jeans & trousers?

The problem is not that our children are slim, but that most shops seem to make clothes on the assumption that we all have Billy and Bessie Bunters at home. It makes me so cross. Both my children are "slim" especially DD, but are most definitely normal and not particularly out of the ordinary.
Jxx
Totally true. There are that many fat kids about (akin to child abuse in my eyes and calling them 'chunky' or 'big boned' doesn't detract from the fact the parents have let the kids down with a crap diet) that the shops have had to cater for them as the norm, meanwhile our normal (i.e healthy) kids are running around with the risk of their breeks round their ankles!!!!:rotfl::rotfl:0 -
I def think the trend towards fatter children is becoming more and more evident. I took my very slim daughter to the doctors to check on her weight & growth only to be told she is completely normal and following her growth percentile as expected. Big relief as I though she was underweight!!
The doctor pointed out that with so many overweight/obese children these days, the idea of what is "normal" has been distorted. I hadn't considered that all and thought the problem was ours!
I am glad I am not the only one to have problems finding clothes for my children that fit. I shall take up some of the suggestions here.0 -

I've had that too!! She was an average weight when born (8lb) and has gradually dropped down the centiles on her weight chart, but there's nothing wrong with her. Glad she's my 3rd, otherwise they would have worried me!!!0 -
Debenhams and Next are very good for adjustable waist trousers and skirts.0

Have the same problem with my 9 year old DD, I love the summer as she runs around in age 2-3 shorts (with the labels cut out:rotfl:). I use debenhams school trousers think they are supposed to be tight fit at the top of the leg but they look ok the material is thin so when you use the adjustable waist they don't look too bad. I agree with the others on here la redoute is good, as is TK max for some reason american children clothes seem to come small (????) also look for any skinny trousers as the waists tend to be slighty smaller but it does not matter if the legs are loose. Unfortunately the age you are looking for some children are still in nappies so manufacturers seem to add some allowance for that it does get slighty easier as they get older.Target weight:
10 stone (1/1/2010 21 lbs to target)
25 lbs lost 2009
6.5 lbs lost 20100 -
I have a 4 year old girl with the same problem, she has my long body and her dads long legs, so she's a very tall slim thing! So far the best place I've found for trousers that fit her waist is primark as the jeans are adjustable - she's in size 5-6 6-7
Asda/tesco/sainsburys are always to big, and even the tops look very baggy on her.0 -
I find all the kids clothes at primark come up small..
I have to buy a size bigger than they actually are to get any kind of wear out of them, maybe you could try there?0 -
I have two girls one with no waist and one with no bum and hips. DD1 who's no waist i find primark, TU (Sainsburys) and Next are good. For dd2 miss hips and bum i find Adams and BHS are the best.
I hate the adjustable waist things they dig in to their sides and looks like they have saggy bums.0 -
DD still wears her primark jeans now (18 month to 24) and they are just now perfect round the waist. They last quite well too, Ok there don't look as nice as the Gap jeans, but when she covers them in paint in nursery who cares!
She still has loads of age 3-4 clothes in her wardrobe she got for Birthdays and Christmas, that still have the tags on, because I know there is no way the trousers will stay up, I made the mistake of putting her in a pair with a belt, well the belt came undone at nursery and I hadn't noticed so walking home, her trousers fell to her feet :rotfl:
I'm just waiting for the influx of age 4-5 when it's her birthday soon.0
