Skinny 3yr old dd - best place for jeans & trousers?

As the title says, my dd is 3 and very skinny!! She's not short though and this is starting to pose a problem.

All her trousers and jeans have the adjustable waist but they look awful on her because they're all bunched up at the waist and they're still huge over her hips.

Does anyone have a recommendations for shops that come up a bit slimmer??

We took her to get her feet checked at the weekend and the lady was shocked how skinny her feet were too!!

She's eats like a horse at the moment, but is constantly on the go :eek:.

When my two were younger I had the same problem. La Redoute were very good then.

My DD is exactly the same, very tall but slim. She is only 19 months atm, and as she wears real nappies this has kind of been a blessing as I can easily get trousers to go over her nappy. She is starting to potty train atm though and I'm finding it hard to find trousers that stay up, as you say with a belt/ adjustable waist band they look scrunched up and uncomfy.

Not sure what make, but a friend passed on some xoxo jeans??? These are a brilliant fit on her, but not sure where to get them. I also find American kid's clothes tend to have a much slimmer fit. She has some nice 'carters' trousers but not sure where from, again passed on. You can find a lot of American stuff in TK Maxx though.

I did like H&M baby clothes were a good fit as they were very elastic but not sure if this follows on to their toddler range.

My DD also has the skinny feet too! It was hard to get her shoes that would stay on, it's not the width of her foot but how flat the top is, if that makes sense. :)

Good luck, I will be watching this thread with interest! :D
  • I have exactly the same problem with my DD but she is 8 (although waist wise she could still easily fit aged 4-5)!!! Anything for her own age is HUGE around the waist & hips!!

I've never tried La Redroute, but I have tried Mini Boden (mail order). Some of their trousers styles are quite slim fitting and most have a drawstring which you can pull in at the waist / or inside adjustable waistband.

Usually I just buy the slimmest fitting trousers I can find and alter the waistband with my sewing machine. Time consuming but much more comfortable than having the buttons rubbing against her skin.

If anyone has any suggestions for my DD's age group I would be very pleased!

For your DD, how about more dresses rather than trousers?

It's such a shame that overweight children are catered for in many shops such as Next with plus sizes, but that slimmer than average are not!

My daughter is the same. She is now 8 and has been like that all her life. She is also exceptionally tall for her age (but then it was expected as I am 6' tall!!!)

I know what you mean about the bunched waists but I think you are just going to have to grin and bear it. My daughter wears age 10 stuff and they are so drawn in at the waist it's scary!!! Look very odd on the washing line!!!

I use Next mainly but Peacocks also have a good kids range and they use adjustable waists.

I used to have this problem with my dd, including C fitting shoes!
I found that Next were about the best place, although I used to do a lot of alterations myself as well

I find that at this time of year the adjustable waists aren't so uncomfortable because my two are wearing vests which are tucked in. Summer time is a different story though. My experience is that no one shop seems to consistently do clothes that you know will fit. I search high and low for tracksuit bottoms that have ties on them that actually adjust the waist, instead of just being for show. I've bought some in Next and Marks but you've got to hunt around.

Same with school trousers. One type in Asda fitted my DD so I bought loads, and DS has his trousers from the local school shop, which are more expensive but fit really well on the waist without adjusters, so imo worth the extra money.

And it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end

I am glad I am not the only one, my dd (nearly 3) still fits into 9-12 month skirts because she has a tiny waist! Trousers are a real problem for us to buy and we always have to try on before we buy. Jeans are a complete nightmare and I dont think we have found any to fit since she was much younger and still wearing a nappy. I often stick her in leggings and a long top to hide the baggy waist! Have tried next but found their clothes came up large too!! Dressing poor dd is a complete nightmare really (its worse than trying to sort my own wardrobe out!) and even worse atm as she has a broken arm and cast to contend with!!!

My DD is the same. She has a tiny waist (like mummy :D )

Out of all the shops I've bought clothes from, I've found GAP to be the near perfect fit.

Im pleased that Im not the only one with a skinny child. My daughter is also tall and slender and everything falls down on her. I tend to buy her slips and dresses and put on thick tights in the winter. leggings under dresses are also an option although even those are baggy in the bum.
  • I don't know if anyone has said it yet, haven't had chance to read replies, but GAP do very skinny trousers, my average size girl sometimes struggles to get in the hand me downs.
