over 50s. Silver savers is a derogatory title ie old, feeble and silver haired
we get enough of that from the great British public as it is0 -
voted for over 50's as I'm not silver, I'm gold! Hair colour, that is lol....at 62 I have no plans to turn silver ever!
Silver saver reminds me of a residential home on the south coast, it was called Silver Threads . Both expressions are rather derogatory, imho0 -
I agree! 70+ is my association with Silver savers ! I must be in denial too as I'm over 50 and I vote for Over 50's or Over Fabulous 50's!!!!May you fill up the great clutterbucket of life and may all of your leaks be in cheese sauce
Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without:cool:0 -

It's quite a time since I passed my English Grammar 0 level. My understanding of something that appears in brackets immediately after a word or phrase is that it is intended to explain that word or phrase.
If I'm wrong, and please correct me if you think so. It follows that "Over 50's" in brackets after the phrase "Silver Savers" is intended to explain who and what Silver Savers are.
My view is that anything that needs an explanation, as this appears to do, is something that may not easily be understood and an explanation is necessary.
Googling a definition of Silver Savers brings up a small number of hits, which may be an indication that the phrase isn't that commonly used.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -

Is there an M/F disconnnect here, I wonder? Most of the women I know over 50 make quite an effort to keep evidence of silver (aka grey) hair as far away as possible. It is seen as ageing and unatttractive.
Men seem to take a different view, possibly because dyeing their hair is not yet socially acceptable.
Could this account for the very obvious split in attitudes on the 'silver' issue ?Trying to keep it simple...0 -
No idea Ed, but Grecian 2000 was invented many, many years ago
which makes it a bit hard to figure out which blokes do and which blokes don't. I would guess many of them who do like to keep the news under their hat
