  • Good for you ljm23k, home education if done properly (which I am sure you do) can be really good, hard work for you but worth it in the end.

Gosh Prof, bet you're always busy!

ljm23k -I considered home education for my two at one point...how's it going?

It certainly is a lifestyle choice, but it is the best thing thats ever happened in our family. I love the freedom to choose the path that suits each child, my daughter writes chapter books at the age of 8, yet my 6 yr old son doesn't read yet. Its about letting each child follow their own developmental timetable. Thats how it is for us anyway.

It would take pages to answer that question! In a nutshell, not happy with the national curriculum, we live in northern ireland and we had a revised curriculum where there was to be less formal education before age 7 and each child to be allowed progress at their own rate but very few schools are implementing it.

Hows it working out? Are you happy with the results so far?

OOh yes, there's no going back for us now. Of course there are a lot of forums for support and advice for anyone starting out. We have been doing it for 18 months. To be honest, my middle child would have been crushed by the school system, he has had a lot of medical setbacks and would not have coped well with school when he was due to go.

Do you mind me asking why you choose to home educate ljm23k?

I remember the assistant head at my secondary school.....he was delicious, Mr Battenburg we called him....

First it was bread now its batternburg.
