    UPDATE 26 August 06

Now available at Pixmania without the Navigon software for £132 !

    Direct Link

Says includes french software , i presume windows is in french ?? not sure if you can make it English ??
  • That's a really good price now. Anyone know if you can use a USB hard drive (laptop one in a usb ecnlosure) with one of these? I know they have USB host port but was just wondering if they would supply enought voltage.

You can connect the pda to your pc with a USB socket, but you can't plug a USB device - ie your HD - into the PDA. There's no usb port, presumably because a PDA just wouldn't have the power to run many USB devices.

My version came with English as the default language for the OS (Microsoft Pocket PC) and I can change it to French without needing a disc, so presumably it would mork the other way. But there's more software than just the OS, and this could be in French. If it could all be changed to English then I don't know why they would say that the software was French..

actually you can attach a usb device (e.g. usb memory) to LOOX N500 if you have a specific usb host cable

Actually, I just looked at the manual pdf and it seems that you can buy a cable (optional extra) that enables it to work as a USB host. You'll probably need extra drivers and it won't run devices using more than 100 ma at 5V (my external HD - which is from a laptop says it's 0.5A at 5v) unless they have their own mains power and I don't know how you'd do that for an external HD.

Last post just appeared as I was typing, so please excuse the repetition
